Thompson to Announce in July, Collamore to Head Campaign -- TPB has learned from a source close to the Draft Thompson organization that Thompson will announce he is running for President shortly after the FEC June 30 quarterly report deadline of this year. As first reported by Chris Cillizza, Tom Collamore, a former vice president of public affairs at Altria, will serve as the Campaign Manager. Collamore was involved as a undersecretary under Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush's staff and transition team.

It’s the way all people size up other people - from dating to job interviews - first impressions. Then they concern themselves with “issues”. Like voting for CFR.

Sorry, but Fred looks too tired to endure the rigors of campaigning and governing. Thanks for giving me 4-5 opportunities to give my opinion on that.

LOL! Just be careful you don’t choke on the fuel exhaust when Fred announces and his campaign takes off like a rocket.

As is, I believe most readers of this thread see you and your posts for exactly who and what they are. Have a nice day.

Is it just me, or is everyone merely projecting their own political opinions onto Fred Thompson? The guy isn’t nearly as perfect as people are claiming he is, and he’s not going to somehow duplicate Reagan’s success.

Part of it is his fault, not to many people know his background outside of acting, to put this in perspective, the fact that he has more experience politically and in government then Hillary Clinton would probably come as a shock.

Think about that, thats how much people do not know about him.

That’s why I’m wary of him.

Knowing what I know about him, I think he really is the most conservative and at the same time, most marketable candidate, but he needs to "get his resume" out there, right now, he is the answer to several trivia questions.

When (not even if) he gets in the race, he is going to have to educate people about his career, from before he was an actor (the first time) and then also his senate career.

He is not a empty vessle, his views and opinions are clear, and very tight (he cut out wiggle room), but outside of the diehard conservatives who read his stuff and/or listen to him, its not open enough, I will back him, since I know him and his views and he is the best candidate, he just needs to start an education process.

For me it is his commitment to Federalism. He has been on the losing end of 99 - 1 votes in the Senate on issues where he did not believe that the federal government should have a role. In this area, only Ron Paul surpasses him. Paul is not strong on the WOT, less likely to get elected and is not nearly as good a communicator as Thompson. There is no other current candidate that even come close on the issue of federalism, with the possible exception of Tancredo, who comes off as a one issue candidate. Before the field took shape, I was rooting for Mike Pence to get in.

When it comes to rolling back the federal leviathan, I think that Thompson could actually surpass Reagan, who though light years better than Bush on the issue, backed off a bit from his earlier commitment to limited government.

McCaine (Mutiny) either a) still doesn’t get it or b) can’t admit a mistake. Both are killers for him as a President.

B. That, plus his stance on immigration, plus his apparently uncontrollable temper, combine to destroy his ability to even get close to the nomination, let alone win in the general. This past week was a very good one for those of us who are scared to death of McCain.

BTW, I think that this is a real tragedy, because he personally (along with generations of his family) have given so much to this country. I genuinely admire him as a person, and believe that this country owes him a lot for what he sacrificed for it. He has generally good positions on most issues...but, the poor guy has wigged out a bit. Maybe it was the captivity in Vietnam that did it and he hid it reasonably well, and maybe the knowledge that he would never achieve his life's ambition did it. Who knows, but IMHO the man is simply not fit to have that kind of power.

Reagan got in late. He will get the money. We sure aren’t giving it to anyone else.

That's the first thing I thought of when: 1) Mitt Romney got the most money among the Republican candidates and 2) Both Hillary and Obama got more money each than Mitt.

Republicans historically raise more money than Democrats, and Obama's donors had to forego a dime bag in order to help a brotha'.
