State Sen. Migden In Car Crash; Cell Phone Blamed
(CBS 5 / AP / BCN) FAIRFIELD State Sen. Carole Migden rear-ended a car on Highway 12 near Fairfield Friday that left one person with minor injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.
Migden, D-San Francisco, was traveling eastbound on the highway at Beck Avenue when she failed to notice traffic stopping for a red light at around 10:40 a.m., according to CHP Officer M.A. Williford.
Migden's 2007 Toyota Highlander then collided into the rear of a 2005 Honda sedan.
Migden was apparently reaching for her ringing cell phone just before she hit the sedan, the senator's office said in a statement.
"In reaching for the phone, (Migden) took her eyes off the road," spokeswoman Tracy Fairchild said in the statement. "She was not injured, and later passed a routine breathalyzer test and then she drove her car home."
The driver of the Honda, identified as 31-year-old Ellen Butawan, of Vallejo, suffered minor injuries and was transported as a precaution to NorthBay Hospital.
A 2003 GMC Savanna van in front of Butawan's Honda was also slightly damaged in the collision, Officer Williford said. That driver was uninjured.
No citations were issued, the CHP said. Migden was on her way to a meeting in Marin County at the time of the crash.
IOW, her SUV -- which is what a Toyota Highlander is -- hit the sedan in front of her so hard that it moved forward and hit the minivan parked in front of it.
But "no citations were issued".
Sounds about right....
What the heck was she driving a Highlander SUV around for - she's a liberal! (Oops, I know, she's a hypocrite, beinga liberal.)
Distracted driving isn't an offense in CA? Or is just when someone other than 'Rat pols and/or Hollyweirdos do it?
Not all of California....
"It was RINGING. Whaddya WANT?"
My final prayer each evening is, “and please, God, if I get in a car accident, let the other driver not be Carol Migden.” The woman’s photo appears in the illustrated dictionary a couple dozen times. In each case, it’s next to a synonym for the word ‘obnoxious’. My heart goes out to the poor chump who hit her.
Be sure to check out the last paragraph of the article....
I just thought of a name change...
“Ugly in Pink”
... poor chump who was hit BY her.
After all, it's not like the cell phone was driving the car...,?I>
In the Chicago suburbs, a local judge died after she crashed her car. It turns out that her BAC was 3 times the legal limit in Illinois. None of the news accounts mention any previous problems with DUI, so the reader is left to assume that this must be the first time the judge was over the limit and got behind the wheel.
She was an assistant county prosecutor.
Whatever happened to "failure to control your vehicle?"
Ptooey.
Here in Florida she would have received a careless driving ticket. It’s automatic in any case similar to this one. Also, this one looks just like Tootsie in the movie.
An evil SUV attack...
She supported a law that bans use of a cellphone by the little people while driving.
There, fixed it for you. :-)
Not surprising.....
Obviously.......

You know, you are on to something there: Perhaps our new domestic war-on-terror strategy (with the leftists/media) should be that we are trying to implement the gun control policies that are being cried for here. There is no call for ending driving even though tens of thousands are killed each year in accidents/recklessness.
You nailed it by calling them statists. That is exactly what they are. My job took me to almost all of the former Soviet bloc and witnessed exactly what these statists want: power of hoi polloi, power of businessmen (people smarter than they are), the education system (to control what is being taught....oh, they already do that), control guns (to make sure that they keep the power over us), and not last, the media.
Thank God for the internet so we can share this sort of information.
I don’t think this one is finished. First reports were that she was “disoriented.” Next we heard about the cell phone. On tonight’s news, they interviewed witnesses who said she was driving recklessly before the crash.
