If a lie gets repeated multiple times, it becomes CW.

Yes, and in the category of double standards, BJClinton is remembered for 2 sentences from his entire 8 years in office. Yet, somehow, no one holds him to the same standard as GWB.

Why? Because the DBM played a clip-about-nothing in Clinton’s voice in every newscast for 8 years.

Here are two more threads that should tell the Senate this bill is a bad deal.

Plus this as an added bonus. You know if Sen Dole is against this bill, it has to be bad.

'no extension of amnesty and fast-track citizenship (new applicants to the back of the line);'

I am getting to the point that they should not be allowed 'IN' the line, if they come here illegally.

However, Newt is not comfortable with the current situation in Iraq and our limited use of statecraft (which worked so well with Iran and its nuclear program).

You could add North Korea to that sentiment, as well.

At least we have started to take a proactive step toward the country of Mexico, which is mostly inside our borders now. Too bad it's the wrong step.

Did you know that Tony Blair had “scheduling conflict” when President Clinton invited him to meet in NY, that he had to leave for Iraq. (Don’t ask for a link, I don’t have any.)

Unfortunately politicians do not always do what the people they represent want.

In Britain the majority of the people would be in favour of the death penalty no party is ever going to have that as part of their manifesto.

Most Britain's want tougher immigration laws no party will ever be tough enough.

It is not only their own citizens that they listen to they worry and pander to world opinion even more you may well have a case of this here.

Many may fear if they tougher for example deport a few million then world opinion will turn against further against America which most of them believe is already not favourable because of Iraq whether that is true or not is probably academic.

1 The ONLY thing standing between you and your worst nightmares on Immigration is the political spines of 41 GOP Senators.

I'm not having nightmares over this but I do believe this will be a major issue in the 2008 election and beyond.

2. The GOP House Leadership they fired last Nov for not being dogmatically pure enough had this Immigration thing DEAD.

It was not dead, only sleeping.

3. If this thing passes, 90% of the votes in Congress for this stupid bill will be DEMOCRAT votes.

There is a reason the polls show Americans are heavily opposed to the amnesty efforts.  I'm not suggesting we go out and in mass deport all illegal aliens.  I do, however, believe we have to support enforcement of our laws.  As Thompson pointed out, this does not have to be either/or.  There are other alternatives that can become long-term solutions to this problem. .

If Fred Thompson has a brain in his head, upon his announcement as a candidate for POTUS, he will vow to enforce the immigration laws already on the books, secure BOTH borders and WIN THE WOT.

Fred, are you paying attention?

The chart below shows, among other things, that in those industries that employ illegals the MAJORITY of the jobs are held by....GASP!...AMERICANS.

That puts a HUGE HOLE in Bush's claim that illegals are doing jobs Americans won't do.

It also shows, as Bush has claimed, that more than a million illegals a year have been deported since Bush took office.

Well if they can deport 6 million, they can double their efforts and deport 12 million.

Lastly, after BOTH borders have been secured, all illegals should be deported including the incarcerated. Why should Americans pay to incarcerate other countries' criminals. It's not like we don't have enough American criminals to incarcerate. And by deporting the foreign incarcerated in American prisons we not only lower our prison costs but we open up slots for AMERICAN criminals who are now roaming about the country unabated.

The 2008 Conservative Revolution has started! Now all we need is a CONSERVATIVE to lead the revolution. Because we are in danger of not only losing our two party system but our sovereignty. It is time for CONSERVATIVES to take back the GOP and the time is NOW!

Thanks anita, I DO like the article.

Our candidate in CO for US Senate adds we have to reverse the perception of the public that Republicans are just as spending and more government crazy as Democrats are. We, as a party, need to reclaim the reputation of lower taxes and less government. Too many Republicans forgot the lessons of why we won in 1994.

That is one of the things I think “Conservatives” don’t quite grasp. There is a segment of the “Conservative” political Establishment, including some politicians in DC, who simply cannot stand to admit Bush was right and they were wrong about Iraq.

For people like Buckley, Buchanan, Hagel et al, their egos are way more important then what is good for the USA. To admit Bush was right would require them to set aside decades of hate for the Bush family as well as some of their tightly cherished political dogmas. Like most people, they would rather blame the one showing them their errors then admit the errors exist.

It one of the more sorry aspects of US politics is how often things are done because of the egos of the players rather then the best interests of the country.

Thanks Bahbah, this gives me the opportunity to repost my favoriet Krondrake quote.

Morton Kondracke, Roll Call magazine, 1994:
“Liberals obviously didn’t intend for the abandonment of traditional values to lead to an aids epidemic, rampant teen-age pregnancy, the destruction of two-parent families, an explosion of child abuse and child poverty, increasing coarseness in popular culture and horrific street violence. But it has.”

I don’t know. In 1992 the Bush 1 was running for reelection so maybe this time the anger over immigration will not splash over onto the nominee since he will not be directly linked to the bill. I don’t know. The only things that is maybe a bright light here is probably all the Democrat candidates who are Senators will vote FOR the bill. We can use that if they turn out to be the nominee.

I was a Perot victim - I was one of those who worked hard for Perot.

I've been a Republican supporter and voter for 30 years. I come from a family of Republican activists (Dad was Chairman of the party in a large eastern city). I was stacking and distributing literature for Nixon/Agnew 1968.

With this immigration bill, the Republican Party has absolutely and finally betrayed America, betrayed conservatives, and utterly betrayed the our traditions and laws.

I will not - no matter the Bushbot and diehard insults - suffer the indignity of one more Republican betrayal. They have crossed the line.

If Republicans pass this amnesty and free ticket for 50 million uneducated and impoverished lower-class day laborers to come and enjoy the fruits of my forebears and relatives, at my cost and from my wallet, then they have lost my vote forever. I will change my voter reg. to Independent, and hope that we can develop a party which actually respects our country, our laws, our heritage, and our sovereignty.
