We have no champion of optimism to rally around!!! Everytime we try here in CA, we get hit with the tired tirade from the politically expedient party putch croud that our champion cannot possible “win!” (it’s like drinking from a negativity fire hose!)
The pols knew what their base wanted, and the pols flipped voters the finger and said “We know better than you” on issue after issue.
Spot on, and there seems to be no change forthcoming from the Republicans, from Hastert’s covering for Jefferson to the disgraceful cover up of the Mark Foley’s piccadillos we ahve been poorly led at the top.
The question is, will all of that result in the downfall of the Two Party cartel?
In other words, the only reason this numbnuts ever got his hands on the office of Chief Executive is because the alternatives (Gore, Kerry) would have been even worse.

I wasn’t trying to convince anyone that people care about LOST. That point is conceded. The point is that Bush doesn’t have to promote this bad idea, global tax, lost sovereignty, and yet does. So the betrayals are likely to continue. Heck he didn’t even get his strong anti-globalist UN ambassador John Bolton voted on. Now the globalists are looking for a global warming tax to secure a permanent independent revenue stream.

If Bush signs anything into law even remotely resembling S.1348, the GOP is toast. Most of the the conservative base has already departed, and those few remaining will view that event as proof positive there is no longer a GOP which shares conservative values. Quite the opposite. I suggest they keep right on pandering to the illegal alien invaders because they are going to need them to replace the conservative base. Of course, the pandering won't work because the latinos will all be crowding into Rat Central (DNC) to register.
In my opinion Bush’s biggest problem - and it seems characteristic of most Republicans - is their unwillingness to fight back when the Democrats utter nonsense. There are dozens and dozens of people in FR who should be writing press releases for Bush, saying what needs to be said, calling the Dems on their lies and distortions and crap. The Plame/Libby affair was a prime example, and the attorney firings is another. Some tough talk, some pointed rebuttle, some simple clarity, early on would have prevented those entire fiascos.
The vast majority of people cast their presidential votes because of vague emotional feelings towards the candidate, not because of specific bills.
What, since I'm a Republican in an overwhelming Democrat state I don't have any idea what I'm talking about? Do you have any idea how silly that sounds?
All of your observations are correct. I have long known that the strict-constructionist is now but a pipe dream. I am of the opinion that our democracy will continue it’s steady decline toward socialism as a result...I am WAY past the mourning period on this. But I DO feel like a putz for voting twice for a man who is going to sign this immigration travesty. I guess I’m saying that I will only vote for true blue conservatives in the future...don’t blame the future GOP’s losses on me although I suspect you will. My political affiliation is Conservative, no longer Republican
I am willing to set aside some of these cultural issues for the moment and focus on the big threat. Many like to quibble
I share your predicament being in Maryland(and I even live in a left-wing part of the state, the People's Republic of Greenbelt, which is a nice place overall, but we have a "New Deal Cafe" which makes me want to barf every time I go past it.)
If anything it gives us a BETTER political perspective and insight into the thinking of swing voters, etc.
Failure to secure the borders.
Amnesty.
McCain-Feingold.
Big government.
Big spending.
Failure to protect private property.
Failure to abide by the constitution.
Failure to enforce the law.
Corruption.
Too many RINOs.
Lack of spine.
Loss of testicles.
Failure to run conservative candidates.
And if Rudi shows up as the nominee, add:
Abortion.
Gay marriage/gay agenda.
Gun control.
All of the above.
At this point, I really don't see any qualitative difference between the Clinton Democrats and the Dubya Republicans. It's merely a choice of going to hell in a handbasket or in a limousine - either way we're all f__ked.
It IS about party, when one party is willing to throw everyone out, and the other stands behind their folks. It sounds very noble to stand for your principles and throw out those with whom you disagree on an issue, but when it comes down to it, allowing the other party, which doesn't agree with ANYTHING you hold important, take the majority of seats in Congress, doesn't seem very smart.
The immigration warriors did not stay home - the blue-collar Reagan Democrats decided that they could vote for either the pro-amnesty party that would hand them a welfare check when their job was offshored/cheap-sourced, or the pro-amnesty party that would leave them hanging when their job was offshored/cheap-sourced. The exit polls showed that the Republican base DID SHOW UP - it was the independents that sat out or voted DIM. Stop repeating this trope.
