So we can check that off our list.
A look at history will show that the American people tend reach a point of fatigue with any party that is in power for more than a few years. Republicans hold a slight advantage in Presidential elections, as Republicans are seen as more serious about foreign policy. Democrats hold an advantage in Congressional elections, as Democrats are seen as more attentive to domestic policy (handing out goodies).
Elections are won and lost in the mushy middle, and moderate Democrats, Independents and Republicans seem to think it somehow “fair” to switch power to a different party from time to time.
Political parties suffer a lapse in energy after sitting in power for a while, and proceed to worry about reelection as opposed to proper governance.
At this point in time, Republican conservative principles are still in tune with enough Americans to win elections, but Republicans are having a terrible time explaining their goals, and are losing the propaganda war against both Al Qaeda and the Democrats.
Much of the media are now an arm of Liberalism, which makes the situation tougher. That is changing, but conservatives are still taking hits on that front.
Neither party has a charismatic leader that embodies their relative positions and principles currently.
Given all the above, the Democrats are in the driver’s seat for 2008, it is theirs to lose.
I’d like to see and hear a bit more about hope. Where are the Ronald Reagan supporters when we need them? Reagan would have chastised such sentiment when we have 18 months to go before the next election.
When people give up on the concept of America and it’s freedoms, we have malaise. Let’s leave that ideology to the left-wing bloggers over at DU and the MSM leftist fellow-travelers. We conservatives ought to be preaching a positive message which emphasizes growth and the spirit of America which is a can-do concept. The last time I looked Jimmy Carter was still a Democrat. We do not need to emulate him with our own brand of pessimism.
Is anyone else here on the forum getting tired of doom and gloom?
The mere fact that someone even reads a board like this, much less posts here, puts them in a microscopic .001% elite in terms of political awareness - people have trouble putting themselves in the mindset of an average Joe Blow.
LOST is such an esoteric policy wonk issue to the average person,it having the remotest political effect anyone outside of a 4 block radius of UN headquarters or the US Capitol is beyond absurd.
If Bush somehow started talking about it all the time all it would do is cause even more people to question his sanity.
I mean, I don’t think most people REALLY care about ABORTION that much and it never ends up being much of an issue in elections, despite the fervent hopes of activists on both sides - you’re not going to convince me anyone cares about LOST.

Well, to be fair, I think the rest of it is in a storage locker somewhere in Mexico.
Rush said today, again, that once our local elected politicians get to Washington, they're soon corrupted by the prevailing DC culture.
On the other hand, I wonder if we, at the local level, are adequately vetting our candidates.
The problem I have is people claiming every time after a Republican loses, that if they'd only supported or emphasized (insert their pet issue here) more, they'd have won. It's superficial and self-serving.
It's even funnier when people do it for some sort of state election in a place they don't understand - I saw people doing it for Ehrlich and Steele in Maryland - as if they'd somehow been bigger social cons, this mysterious "base" that supposedly exists but ONLY comes out to vote if a candidate EXACTLY matches all their views, would have come voted and they would have won.
The Maryland races, in hindsight, were unwinnable, and Ehrlich, in hindsight, won four years ago in a fluke over a horrible candidate after a previous personally hated Democratic Governor. If more "conservative" candidates had run, they would have lost by even more.
Now people are going to dismiss Maryland as a hopless "blue" state (as much as I hate the color assignments which are the reverse of what they should be) but it's true of a lot more evenly balanced states too.
It ain't "the people" who have given up on the concepts of America and her freedoms. Our politicians, the folks we elected to represent us, have abandoned those concepts.
It's not "malaise" to recognize that America has been betrayed by our elected "leaders.".
The GOP has lost 2008, let’s not kid ourselves. All effort now should be put into stopping Hillary and Bill.
He is the #1 reason.
We need to figure out how to avoid getting stuck with another idiot.
We need more Reagans.

I’d put the chances of getting either the Senate or House back at nil, but Hillary is a truly disliked person across a broad spectrum of the country, and if the Democrats are dumb enough to nominate her, she’ll lose to any one of McRomnliani or Thompson.
So much of Presidential elections are based on whether people want to see someone’s face constantly for four years. They don’t really want to see Hilary, and they don’t want to see Bill as a First Man.
No it includes no. 1. I will tell you why. I am against the war as it is being fought. First because of the idiotic, mealy mouthed 1973 War Powers Act Congress doesn’t have to declare war they just kind of dance around and say we will let the PRESIDENT do a little something kind of. YOU DON”T WIN KIND OF. Declare War then go in and win it. The present situation allows the murder of our troops and lets idiocy ala Kerry (I voted for the LIMITED war before I voted against it.) You Dont win LIMITED wars. You fight the battle all out or you stay home! You see however that even the “pullout” Dems have no courage to just bring the boys home. 67 to 29 is pretty emphatic. The right thing is to either fight it all out or bring them home NOW because if we are invested in defeat it isn’t worth another single life of an American soldier but this wont happen because ALL of Congress are cowards. If you have courage you put what is right out there even if it gets beat to Hell!
