Excellent response. The last time we had a President with this point of view, his name was Carter, and I was floating off the coast of Iran on a Carrier waiting for the orders the situation required, but never came.

‘Were this WWII, Ron Paul would be telling us to listen to Tokyo Rose so we could understand why the Japanese hate us, and how we created the situation that caused the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor.’

Yep. The same viewpoint expoused recently by John Mellencamp on Charlie Rose’s show.

OBL’s justifications for killing humans that refuse to kneel five times per day facing Mecca in worship of Allah have changed more times than anyone can count.

His original complaint was we had troops in Saudi Arabia to defend against Saddam and Son’s. We left...he found another reason to kill humans that refuse to kneel five times per day facing Mecca in worship of Allah.

Citing a madman’s insane rationalizations in defense of a home grown kook like Ron Paul is counterproductive to your own cause, in short.

‘That’s the point that his supporters seem to be missing. Ron Paul may be a rock solid defender of the Constitution, a patriot, a veteran, and a staunch conservative. He’s also bonkers. ‘

Yep, its true. You can love the Constitution, and be insane at the same time.

‘But apparently you can spin it.’

His words don’t need to be ‘spun’. He said what he said, he refused to make any corrections when given the opportunity.

Doesn’t really matter, he blew the one in a zillion chance he had going into that debate.

In my opinion Ron Paul cares more about the U.S. Constitution than anybody here.

No, he cares about his interpretation of the Constitution, which is laughably wrong in several critical areas.

First of all, he demands a specific language for a declaration of war that is NOWHERE mandated in the Constitution itself. On the contrary, the language Congress used to authorize America's first foreign war (against the Barbary Pirates) was remarkably similar to the language used to authorize the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

He also laughably refers to "letters of marque and reprisal" -- I say "laughably" because his little, isolationist head would explode if he actually stopped to realize that such instruments carry absolutely no meaning UNLESS BACKED BY "INTERNATIONAL LAW". They are ENTIRELY dependent on foreign governments recognizing their validity.

He's a blowhard, not a Constitutional scholar.

Why do you persist in ignoring my second point?

“Or you can’t tell the difference between an explanation, which he gave, and a justification, which you choose to call it.”

Were this WWII, Ron Paul would be telling us to listen to Tokyo Rose so we could understand why the Japanese hate us, and how we created the situation that caused the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor.

Exactly.

Ron Paul states he "feels the pain" of Islamic terrorists/murderers - the clear implication being that we should somehow excuse these murderous acts through understanding the grievances of the Islamist fanatics.

He does indeed utilize the U. S. Constitution and particularly the 1st Amendment - all created and sustained through sacrifices of millions of U. S. service people against the forces of murderous tyranny which Ron Paul so readily, and so sadly, makes excuses for.

He and all who think like him lack the DNA for survival - though of course they think, in self-delusionment, just the opposite.

‘Why do you persist in ignoring my second point?’

Because it rings false.

“Or you can’t tell the difference between an explanation, which he gave, and a justification, which you choose to call it.”

As I already posted, his ‘explanation’ isn’t valid, because of his cherry picking the time frame for his ‘explanation’.

That doesn’t make it a justification or an excuse.

When did he state that? I have never heard that come out of his mouth.

You perhaps should start listening to the words he's saying, and quit trying to find implications in them. It's a distinct possibility that Dr. Paul means EXACTLY what he says, not what you choose to read into it.

Irrational isolationism is a part of conservative roots?

What is "irrational" about not wanting to conduct nation-building exercises? George W. Bush campaigned saying he was against nation-building. Would you also accuse him of being an "irrational isolationist?"

"Facts don't matter to the kool-aid sippers"

Kool-aid = Constitution.

The Kool-aid laced with cyanide and tranquilizers = Ron Paul

It is time to take off the tinfoil hat and see Ron Paul for what he is: a Trojan Horse to do damage to the Republican Party.

“Do you discount the Unabomber’s manifesto on the same grounds?”

I certainly wouldn’t ascribe integrity to anything the Unibomber wrote...including his manifesto.

Do you equate the two?

There is a difference between “nation-building” for the sake of it and “nation-building” because we broke something that was a threat to our security.

"...thankfully people like Ron Paul understand that you must know your enemy if you wish to defeat him." ROFLOL! If only that were true. Paul isn't interested in defeating terrorists -- he is interested in retreating from them.

I wouldn't cite writings from Pat Buchanan as the most sane source to validate Ron Paul. They are both isolationists. Ron Paul apparently blames WWI for the rise of Hitler and WWII. Actually, it was the failure to enforce sanctions imposed on Germany after WWI that led to WWII. Sound familiar?
