PELOSI LOWERS THE BOOM Wed May 16 2007 14:43:59 ET

After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.

The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.

In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.

While I understand what you’re saying about the benefits of gridlock, please remember that there are tens of thousands of American troops in harm’s way, and they are in dire need of funding.

I’m all for the gridlock, as soon as the troops get the support they need.

My opinion has been that a republican won’t be able to buy a vote in ‘08 b/c of Iraq. I may have to rethink my position now...

Just wait 'til you see what "immigration reform" turns out to be. There may not be a republican party in '08 after that.

Right.... If the Republicans cave on this, then they will be in the permanent minority. A new party will emerge.

As long as Pelosi’s high-handed disregard for tradition is known, then it is a good thing.

Congress’ approval rating in polls is dropping like a rock, and as long as the lack of activity is blamed firmly on the Dems, I’m happy.

She won because a huge percentage of posters on this forum said conservatives should sit out the election to "teach the GOP a lesson".

There's a sucker born every minute, and those who followed that advice are proof of that.

With all due respect, aren't you guys overestimating the power of the forum in molding public opinion?

Should you not be directing your ire at the RINOS who alienated their traditional supporters, instead of chastising the few people here on this forum who only pointed out the obvious?

It's like you are blaming the car wash for the rainstorm.

The RINOs did this. They made themselves utterly repulsive to the electorate.

The small number of people on FR who pointed out their 'RINO-ness' out did nothing wrong.

Can you not see that now the Republican pols are LEARNING something from the behavior mod the electorate pulled on them in 2006?

Or in other words, aren't the politicians supposed to conform to the wishes of the voters, and NOT the other way around, as you would have it?

Really?

I thought from your earlier post 197 that you might say that the Democrats could attempt to reject a state's tally in order to create a crisis, then with a majority in both chambers accept the challenge, and then use the new rule to muzzle the minority Republicans and conservative Democrats into accepting a ram-rodded decision in the House for the Democrat.

Is that scenario possible?

No. Such a rule would not apply to a situation like this where the Constitution and precedent would rule.

You are right - so take a dose of your OWN medicine. People like you allowed Pelosi to become the Speaker of the House - so don't whine about it.

Actually People like me who answer to God first and formost can do nothing else when the Republicans offer candidates who oppose God's laws. The lesser of two evils is not an option.

And I am certainly not whining, I am grimly amused at the name calling and foot stamping on the part of republican partisans. I am not a republican. I am a conservative . Read the front page of this site and see what Free Republic was founded to promote.

I have no problem with the republican party being in the situation it is in. MY goal is to promote biblical values in society, and any candidate who offers that gets my support irrespective of party. Any candidate who opposes biblical morality in any way gets my opposition. if no one runs who I can support, so be it. The god of Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac is who I owe my allegiance - if I can at all support my country at the same time I will do so, but that is not and will never be my highest priority.
