Hello GRPPL. This thread is hard to miss, but it seems appropriate for my first official list ping anyway.

The first duty of our govt. is to protect it’s people, and besides Terri, Romney wavered about federal funding for stem cell research at the 1st debate. I don’t trust him on the life issue; he changed his mind just 2 years before running for POTUS.

And he doesn’t understand the China trade imbalance, and the China threat, and wants a partnership with COMMUNIST China.

Also, I don’t think it’s right for govt. to force people to buy health insurance:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53373
“However, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney just a few months ago signed into law the proposal from that state’s Legislature launching a new mandatory universal health insurance program.

That specific program requires all uninsured adults to buy that insurance by July 1, 2007 – and prove it on their income tax returns – or face fines that could range into the thousands of dollars.”

If these things don’t bother you, I respect your opinion, but I am deeply troubled by them, so won’t be supporting Romney (or any of the 3 front runners).

“Mike Huckabee continues to impress me as do Duncan Hunter and Mitt Romney. I could live with any of the three. I may be the ONLY one here to think so but I think Rudy REALLY got hurt tonight on the abortion issue and will never get the Republican nomination as a result.”

Rudy really did hurt himself with the abortion issue tonight. Although, I think that Romney’s assault weapons ban statement probably hurt him. I truly don’t think that he’s wanting to take anyone’s guns away from them, but while the issue is mostly an afterthought for most voters, it seems to be “the issue” for some of the people in the core conservative base.

IMHO Fred Thompson/Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson/Mitt Romney or even Fred Thompson/Mike Huckabee ticket would be a winner over Hillary/Obama or any other Dem ticket. I don't believe America could truly survive a McCain or Rudy Presidency. Either one would be the same as placing a Dem in charge.

At least with Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee I believe we would be getting a Republican, not a RINO, and a pretty balanced conservative ticket. A conservative ticket more in our favor. I believe they would 'stick-up' for America at home and abroad unlike all the rest.

The 'Wild Card' would be Congress.

I wish Fred would either announce or decline before it's too late to make another choice.

Fred is smart to stay out of this circus until the current set of clowns have all bored the audience to death. Fred doesn't need to make a move till mid or even late summer. The primaries are still 10 months away. Fred is doing more to solidfy the base with no money than these clowns are doing with their millions.

"You can't invite me into a debate AND chastise me for being a "disrupter" when I answer."

Get it right. I didn't "chastise" you for being a disruptor, I just agreed with the poster that did. And I'm just one of those happy FReepers that looks for the silver lining in the cloud. If your anti-gun stance brings attention to Romney's anti-gun stance, I'm going to shout about it.

Oh, Romney was just replayed on H&C stating he's in favor of grabbing guns!

"Who could ever know? He changes positions as often as most men change their underwear."

A flat out lie AND you know it. Romney is running on a conservative pro-life platform. He cannot flop back and be an effective leader. He is locked into his current positions, and as President will have to govern by them.

Furthermore, he has reached out to conseratives, who have prominent roles in his campaign and will have prominent roles in his administration.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I've been exposing Romney's leftist record right along, and he just reaffirmed it tonight.

Tonight:

"Well, let’s get the record straight. There’s no question I support Second Amendment rights, but I also support an assault weapon ban." - Mitt Romney

Romney signs off on permanent assault weapons ban - July 08, 2004

Governor Mitt Romney has signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that he says will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on these guns.

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony on July 1 with legislators, sportsmen’s groups and gun safety advocates. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”
