WASHINGTON, D.C.-The summer travel season isn't even here yet and gas prices are higher than ever. The government says the average for a gallon of regular is now three dollars, ten cents a gallon. That's more than four cents higher than the previous record, which was set in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Gas prices have risen more than 93 cents a gallon since hitting their low point this year in January.
An Energy Department official will brief members of Congress Tuesday,on the outlook for summer, when prices traditionally are at their highest.
A nation-wide gas boycott is planned for Tuesday to boycott the high gas prices.

I’ll fill up today but I’ll let the attendant do it for me.
Not this again...
I can’t believe MSNBC printed this mess
It’s almost becoming an annual event.
That'll fix their wagons!!!
We need more refineries, more alternative fuels, fewer regulations and fewer taxes — that’ll bring the prices down, not a pseudo-protest.
Aha, this explains why gas went up 20 cents overnight (yes, you read right- twenty cents!)
Not filling up on a certain day will do nothing to bring down gas prices. Not using as much gas, lowering demand...that might have an impact (might not because of factors involved in pricing of gas.) But not filling up on a certain day is useless, because you’ll just fill up on another day of the week. In fact, if you really believe that gas prices will continue to rise, filling up before your tank goes empty is really the optimum way to do it.
I filled up with E-85 in Bargersville, Indiana, at $2.35 per gallon. 87 octane gasoline was selling for $3.19.
That'll show 'em! Well, the only thing it'll show 'em is that people who do this have no understanding of simple economics, but it will definitely show 'em that.
things like this are so stupid, long term use reduction is the only way to get any change. a one day embargo with no less gas usage does nothing. Paying 45 to fill up the tank tomorrow instead of paying 38 dollars to fill it up today won’t teach anyone anything.
Unbelievable. IT’s not like they won’t sell it tomorrow.
Not to mention with the refineries running at below capacity (Thanks to the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, and Algore) and we lack refining capacity anyway...
I guess some people think there’s a huge profit in selling gasoline.
Wow! That is quite a spread!
So you are using the same amount of fuel?
I think the only way people will conserve is if prices are high. It will also motivate private business and congress to come up with solutions. These boycotts are silly and unhelpful.
Evidently, some dolt at MSLSD just now got the email spam letter that’s been circulating for years.
I’m seeing no change in the lines to fuel up here in Southern Ohio.
Then again, MSNBC’s average viewership is less than 30% of Cincinnati’s total population....(chuckle)
The guy selling you gas ain’t the problem. If anyone felt strongly about this they should have shown up to vote Nov. 7th. It is legislation that is the problem.
This is stupid and whoever came up with the idea doesn’t understand economics.
