I have no way of knowing if this post is permitted or not? Freerepublic .. as I see it usually deals in current events and breaking news. I have a question and it seems Odd, even to me to ask a question on this site.
My wife, God bless her, has children, (previous marriage) who graduated from Virginia Tech.
Somehow, I stepped over the line tonite by saying that some students .. at Tech, stood, like sheep and waited to be shot by Cho.
She is in complete denial and is so mad at me that I don't know what to do.
My Question: DID some students, as I have seen reported, Really line up and wait to be shot by this guy?

You beat me!!!!
LOL!!
What is, is!
Tell your wife that you are sorry, and don’t go to sleep mad at each other!
It’s unreasonable to expect people who are faced with an extreme situation to react in a way that seems rational in hindsight.
Yeah, and then make your own sex tape, and send it to NBC. But make sure to send it to 30 Rockefeller Road or Street, to replicate the 24-hour delay. :O)
offer your wife a brandy. blindfold yourself and ask for a last cigarette.
Did you just fall off the turnip truck? Why are you arguing with your wife over this? What is more important, being right or a happy placid marriage?

And the good thing is that we all know that it's not really a last cigarette.
Besides, don't forget -- Sunday is Mother's Day: tell her you'll take her out to Applebee's or Chick-Fil-A or something.
Them Chick-Fil-A waffle fries is bitchin', don't you know...
It’s almost as if that thing has TWO faces!
I hate to say this, but it was really presumtive of you to assume that you can really understand the last moments of those people’s lives. Once I was in a holdup and had a gun stick the muzzle of the shotgun into my backside right above the kidney, and I did not turn around and act like a movie hero. I merely walked into the office and watched him take the money. The sight of a man killing other people in cold blood next to you is enough to send most of us into shock. It sure sounds good to say that they should have fought back, and perhaps if someone with a concealed weapon had been nearby the carnage would not have been as gruesome. Perhaps. For most of us, though, the moment would be too horrific for anything but shocked horror and amazement.
I meant “gunman.” See, the memory still causes me to stop and think.
There were some who did seemingly allow themselves to be shot, and that can be found in the news reports. Although none of us can be certain what we would do if put in that particular, or similar situation, there are some who would let it happen to them, and others who would try and stop the attack. But other factors must be considered, like distance from the attacker, weapon used, picking the right moment to strike, layout of the room/hallway, etc. It is hard to be sure.
A lot of people forget that in addition to our fight or flight response is a third (lessor known and acknowledged) response: FREEZE. If a human being experiences utter hopelessness, freeze usually kicks in. Animals in the wild use the ‘freeze’ response (instinctively) all the time, and (many times) survive as a result.
Granted, I’m not a psychologist, but I sometimes play one on message boards at 2:30 in the morning. :O)
Okay, now that’s gonna create some nightmares later... :O)
