Speaking today in Tampa, former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson said he has no interest in running on a Republican ticket as Vice President.
Thompson said, I have no interest in running for or being the vice president. He has been giving speeches around the country preaching conservative Republican gospelfor lower taxes and tighter border security and against pulling troops out of Iraq. He said today, I dont think I would ever want to do that and be in the second position.
But Thompson, best known for his television role as fictional District Attorney Arthur Branch on NBCs Law and Order, offered few clues about his plans to enter the 2008 presidential race.
I am doing the things necessary to put myself in a position to make a decision on that. You know when you havent been running all your life for president its quite a pivot in your own life and that of your family. and so that looms large.
On Saturday night Thompson continues his speaking tour giving an address to the ultra conservative Council for National Policy in northern Virginia.
I doubt if any of the ten candidates running are doing so for the office of vice president.

What’s the difference between conservative and ultra-conservative???
The decoder ring.
and the secret hand shake.

“Whats the difference between conservative and ultra-conservative???”
Fred Thompson is too conservative to address mere conservative gatherings. He only settles for the ultra crowd. Plus, he will be number 2 to no one. He will BECOME president if he so chooses.
I like to consider my self an “arch-conservative”
He hasn’t answered the question nearly as decisively when asked about being at the top of the ticket.
If he runs, he wins.
>What’s the difference between conservative and ultra-conservative???<
Nazi-ism?
It would be like Rush Limbaugh running. He will be easy for democrats to type-cast and demagogue, lowly tactics that would probably work.
Much as I admire him, I want someone more electable than Thompson.
The Conservative Message wins again and again. Even Clinton ran as a conservative democrat. They all do. Then they govern from the left. Give me “real” conservative every time.
Ultra-Conservative only has 2.6 grams of Carbs.
You don’t know much about Fred, do you?
Someone hasn’t been studying their FRederalist papers!
They fear him for precisely the opposite reason. They CAN’T demagogue him. He’s nothing like Rush Limbaugh. Don’t let the fact that a lot of very conservative people support him fool you into thinking he’s a hardliner. He is a common sense conservative, which goes a long way with members of both parties.
Whereas rudy, on the other hand, might be running the most effective campaign for empty-suit VP in history.
Rush Limbaugh is no hardliner. He is about as common sense conservative as one can be. I take exception to such gratuitous smears.
I want someone more electable than Thompson.
Or are you looking for RINO you imagine will get Democrats to vote “R”?
But, while you're taking exception to things, how about you lay off your phony offended routine and take exception to the guy that said this:
It would be like Rush Limbaugh running. He will be easy for democrats to type-cast and demagogue, lowly tactics that would probably work.

Here in TN, a LOT of Democrats voted for him for Senate. Remember the reason many people vote Dem is not because they are barking moonbats, but because they fear that Conservatives want to shove religeon down their throats. These people don't have to fear Fred.
