“No need. I think Rudy just committed political suicide.”

This is an opportunity for the conservative pundits to turn on Rudy. If not, they’ve been lying about their convictions. (are you listening S. Hannity?)

"He is eyeing a path to the nomination that would try to de-emphasize the early states in which abortion opponents wield a great deal of influence."

I wonder how he expects to win, since that will involve more than half the states!

He will use every trick in the book---voter fraud tops the list.

Well he is in for a challenge as the liberals use voter fraud as their 'primary colors' method of winning elections. (Oh and for those uninformed the words 'primary colors' is the name of a book and movie describing Clintons methodology!!)

It's amazing how the RINOs all think they represent the party base. Or that the conservatives will fragment on individual social issues. I have to wonder about the people they choose to advise them. Buncha "yes" folks, ya think? Yeah BOSS. YOU RIGHT! YOU DA MAN!

Reminds me of that movie about that ghost ship dead in the water and nothing on board.

Read your history book. The answer is simple: the ban is enforced against providers, just like it always was up until the 1970's (a little earlier in a couple states). The business about women being prosecuted is a strawman.

This is true, although it ultimately needs to be changed as well. We don't allow people to hire hitmen to murder their children and then only punish the hitmen. That would be outrageous.

But I do agree, Rootys ship is sunk. Not a moment too soon, either.

Right from the get go, as many of us predicted, Rudy intends to split the Republican party if he does not become the pre-annointed presidential candidate of the Republican Party. Rudy wants to become the mayor of the USA or destroy all Republican chances for a victory. Iraq has now overshadowed his candidacy.

Other Freepers have been very busy researching these connections over the last several months.

See: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1831003/posts?page=35#17

( Posts 17 to 29)

Its time that Rudy's candidacy is destroyed, utterly, by exposing his Mafia Connections to the general public. The sooner this is accomplished, the better. It provides the true socio-political context in which Giulliani attempted to have Homeland Security run by Kerik, a direct scion of the Gambino family of New Jersey.

***************************************

Interestingly, Giuliani had a 'Vulnerability Study' prepared for his 1993 Mayor's race. The results were so telling that he had the report destroyed-- sensitive information included reports of his "raucous social life" during his first marriage as well as his relations to members of the mob. Giuliani staff were also concerned about the "weirdness factor"-- perhaps most directly due to his marriage to his first cousin (further reading in Barrett's Rudy! An Investigative Biography).

JUST A SMALL SAMPLING of his connections to mafia organizations, corrupt deals, appointments of criminal and defamed friends and other scandals follow below. A few hours of research will reveal a great more information-- more than is necessary for this article:

FATHER AND UNCLE CONVICTED FOR MOB CRIMES

Giuliani's father was a convicted hold-up man who served time in an upstate prison and was later employed as an enforcer for a Mafia loan shark operation. When the book was first released Giuliani denied and later admitted it was true. According to the book, a number of his other relatives were also in the Mafia besides the uncles who were firemen and police officers that he proudly refers to in public speeches.

Abortion is a very important to 9%-13% of the electorate - on both sides (but mostly on the pro-life side). It is an issue, but not a dealbreaker, for the rest of the electorate. Even a 10-percentage point defection to a third party candidate isn't going to change the result in most Southern states.

First, it's one thing for squishy voters to go for a generally pro-choice guy like Bill Clinton. But Giuliani is not moderate on abortion. He's for public funding, he's donated to Planned Parenthood, etc. -- you can't get more liberal on that issue, short of China's one-child policy.

Second, your bizarre assumption is that abortion is the *only* issue that's problematic for Rudy. Gun issues, freedom issues, the WOT, etc. will alienate other constituencies.

I didn’t realize that EACH DAY in the U.S, 3,700 babies are aborted. Worldwide, the number is 46 million per year!! (1996 statistics)

If Rudy thinks he is going to win the Republican primary in ANY state by emphasizing his pro-abortion views then he has really lost it.

Actually his strategy may be to present himself as the only alternative to all the other candidates in the field. Everyone else is attempting to portray themselves as pro-life and anti-abortion. I think he thinks that if he comes across as pro-abortion, that he can pick up all of the liberal republican and RINO votes in the primaries and walk away with 25 to 30% of the primary votes and if the other 7 or 8 candidates take in 10% each, he can walk away with the nomination.

I think he is running away from the base because he knows that the base (Family oriented religious conservatives) will NEVER support him. What surprises me, however, is how many family oriented religious conservatives actually do support him. Maybe this will change their minds. Maybe not.

I read a few days ago that 90 percent of women would procure an abortion if they knew that they had a child on the way with a deformity. Maybe that’s the clientele that Giuliani is wooing.

In both 1976 and 1996 there were conservative planks in the GOP platforms disavowed by Ford and Dole both years. In 1864, General McClellan disavowed his own Democrat platform which blasted that war as a failure and urged a negotiated settlement. The once popular Edwin W. Edwards of Louisiana, I believe, said that his support for Jimmy Carter was based on the notion that no one had read the Democrat platform, would read it, and it would never be adopted any way.
