Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says he's getting tired of the questions about his shift a few years ago from supporting to opposing abortion. In a television interview last night, he said he wouldn't be barraged with so many questions if he had switched from pro-life to pro-abortion.
The comments came during a Monday night interview on the Fox News Channel program "Hannity and Colmes."
Romney has frequently explained how he became pro-life a few years ago after having to deal with the issue of embryonic stem cell research as governor -- after campaigning as a pro-abortion candidate on previous occasions.
"What I find interesting is, had I been pro-life and then changed to pro-choice, no one would ask the question," the former Massachusetts governor said.
He added: "But if you go the other direction, as I have and as Ronald Reagan did and (former Illinois Rep.) Henry Hyde and (former president) George Herbert Walker Bush, it's like the media can't get enough of it: 'Oh, well, why did you change?' "
Romney talked about his abortion views during the Republican presidential debate last week.
Asked whether "the day that Roe v. Wade is repealed" would "be a good day for Americans" Romney replied, "Absolutely."
The former governor was also asked about his position change -- something that presumably led to the Fox News comments.
"I've always been personally pro-life, but for me there was a great question about whether or not government should intrude in that decision. And when I ran for office, I said Id protect the law as it was, which is effectively a pro-choice position," Romney explained.
"About two years ago when we were studying cloning in our state, I said, look, we have gone too far; its a brave new world mentality that Roe v. Wade has given us; and I change my mind," he added.
"And I said I was wrong and changed my mind and said I'm pro-life. And I'm proud of that and I won't apologize to anybody for becoming pro-life," he concluded.
She is x LDS the one is gr gr gr granddaughter of Brigham Young and so is her late husband a gr gr grand child of the Tanners.
They are famous for creative editing!
There a lot of x LDS children it seem families have at one child that is rebellious and going to make their family pay.
you might also want to add Steven Benson and Fawn Brodie etc to your list!
Ok, let's check out your claim.
Let's find out which of their source documents for history, doctrine and practice within the LDS is corrupted and not as it is found in its original repository, whether that is Brigham Young U or any other scholarly institution.
I'm perfectly willing to hear you out, but you must convince me with verifiable fact, not mere assertion/accusation. And, please, no hearsay.
I'm all ears.
GO!
I saw the interview and Gov. Romney was talking about the drive by media, not you and me.
That title is wickedly misleading and appears to be written by someone with an axe to grind.
Why should I help you, even if I did show you, your demeanor to me is like the Dems you just set up another and another just like they are doing to Bush.
I been there and done that I find anti LDS have the same driven appetite, it is no different than Nancy Pelosi and pals.
Just alerting the lukers!
I had a smiliar conversion. I was raised Democrat (Yup, a rare breed among Mormons). I was taught the contradictory stance of personally pro-life but that others could choose by my Mother. (Democrats belive contradictory things sometimes, fancy that.) I voted for Bill Clinton. As I got older, thanks to my older brother, I converted to Repbulicanism (then to Conspiracy theory Constitutionalist, but thats another story).
My Mormon faith actually helped in that conversion to decipher between pieces of my political ideology which were not congruent with my religious belief. My mom was a good Christlike woman but as the scriptures say, even the elect can be deceived.
I really do believe Romneys conversion as it mirrors mine. God can line up little pieces or events in your life that bring you to new enlightenment, like a light turning on in a room. It is easy to see afterward where your life was not in line with Gods love, but when you are living in it is not always so easy to discern.
In his ecclesiastical roles in the past as a Bishop and Stake President, Romney counseled women not to have abortions. I think God lined up the stars for Him to come to an epiphany about the issue to bring his political understanding in line with his personal.
In a television interview last night, he said he wouldn't be barraged with so many questions if he had switched from pro-life to pro-abortion.
And, at least in this statement, he is correct.
I think you’ve missed the point.
Romney is pointing out a double standard. Those who switch from pro-life to pro-death are given a pass. Those who switch from pro-death to pro-life are scrutinized, like somehow they owe us an explanation.
That’s what I got from the article.
No, the point is that Romney doesn’t seem to realize how critical abortion is to most conservatives.
You could have done the right thing and apologized for and corrected your remarks. Instead you take a page out of the Commie playbook and ignore the whopping lie you told and go on to a new accusation.
Do you have a problem with that?
No. Is he running in '08?
If not, who is your preferred candidate? Brownback?
Your attacks would work better EV if you weren't so breathless about them, exaggerated/distorted less, and actually supported a candidate.
I appreciate EV's dedication to Constitutionalism but in his fury I think he over-steps
This thread is a good one to get to understand EV. It gets juicy when it comes out he co-authored the article and didn't disclose it. He also doesn't answer allegations from unmarked package that some of the sources he has relied are crap. For example he bashes Romney on guns using documents the NRA has stated were false (It's what we call "Fake but Accurate"). Basically he won't concede when he is wrong and it damages his credibility when he is right.
Conservative Leaders Call for Immediate Repeal of RomneyCare - It gets really juicy at post #99

What IS the reason for Romney's conversion? Political agenda or a higher calling?
Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to, or removed from, the Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping list...
“Oh. So his horror was so profound he couldn’t speak out for seven years, until after he was no longer governor and in a position to do anything?”
I’m not sure that he could do much WHILE he was governor.
Nonetheless, it is a lie to call Ronald Reagan “pro-choice” at this time. He was about as pro-life then as Mr. Romney claims to be right now.
“Romney simply pointed out that Republicans going pro-life catch press flack.”
No argument there.
The argument is with lying about Mr. Reagan and calling him “pro-choice” so that Mr. Romney could soften his own long-held pro-abort record.
Mr. Romney would go a lot further with social conservatives if he just said, “I was a crummy pro-abort. I was wrong. Now I’m pro-life.”
Without trying to have it both ways - “I was personally pro-life but my position was effectively ‘pro-choice.’”
Or lying about others - “Ronald Reagan was ‘pro-choice,’ too.”
I LOVE converts to the cause. But not those who dissemble about their pasts, or about the pasts of others, to make themselves look better.

Most people assume WWJD stands for "What would Jesus do?" But the initials really stand for "What would Jesus drive?"
One theory is that Jesus would tool around in an old Plymouth because the Bible says, "God drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden in a Fury." Plymouth Fury - in the year of our Lord 1957
But in Psalm 83, the Almighty clearly owns a Pontiac and a Geo. The passage urges the Lord to, "pursue your enemies with your Tempest and terrify them with your Storm." - Psalm 83:15 The Tempest and the Storm
Perhaps, God favors Dodge pickup trucks, because Moses' followers are warned not to go up a mountain "until the Ram's horn sounds a long blast." - Exodus 19:13- Dodge Ram, circa 2001
Some scholars insist that Jesus drove a Honda, but didn't like to talk about it. As proof, they cite a verse in St. John's Gospel where Christ tells the crowd, "For I did not speak of my own Accord..." - John 12:49 the totally redesigned 2001 Honda Accord
Meanwhile, Moses rode an old British motorcycle, as evidenced by a Bible passage declaring that "the roar of Moses' Triumph is heard in the hills." - Triumph motorcycle
Joshua drove a Triumph sports car with a hole in its muffler: "Joshua's Triumph was heard throughout the land." the adorable Triumph Sportster
And, following the Master's lead, the Apostles car-pooled in a Honda - "The Apostles were in one Accord." !!!! - Acts 5:12 - interior of the 1998 Honda Accord
Something to think about!
No lies told.
Up until the last few years, Mr. Romney was a thorough-going, mainstream liberal pro-abort. He was willing to curtail the extremes of the abortion license around the edges, but he supported the fundamental holding of Roe: access to legal abortion is a woman’s constitutional “right.”
He’s said publicly that he’s held this position - that abortion should be legal - since at least 1970.
In 1970, by the way, abortion was nearly completely illegal in most states, and even in most states with “liberal" abortion laws was still significantly restricted. Thus, by saying that he’s been a pro-abort since 1970, he’s saying that he wished to CHANGE the laws to permit greater legal access to abortion more generally.
Mr. Romney was [is? the jury’s still out, there] a pro-abort.
It would be better if he just kept his comments about the subject to: “I was a filthy pro-abort. I was wrong. Now, I’m pro-life.”
Without claiming to be “personally pro-life but...” or claiming that Ronald Reagan - who, in 1967, was as pro-life as most pro-lifers are today - was “pro-choice.”
Too bad you have such a difficult time dealing with the truth.
