How many of those .50 rifles have ever been used in a crime?

Why don’t these fools go after the box-cutter industry?

Some activists just don’t understand how to make their points in less than 1 million words.

Utter crap. Why would terrorists buy multi-thousand dollar .50's in the US when they could get Hungarian Gepards for a fraction of the cost?

Every member of the Board of Directors for the VPC should be hanged as traitors...

The threat from Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda, which has bought at least 25 Barrett 50 caliber sniper rifles, need not be exaggerated.

So VPC starts to exaggerate.

I’m more worried about the nut that wrote this than I am about anyone owning this weapon.

btw, I can’t help but laugh at the notion anyone can buy one of these guns and ‘hit a target at a 1,000 yards’.

Thats utter nonsense. It takes YEARS to learn that particular ‘skill set’. And several thousand rounds.

The cost alone makes it improbable.

That is a pretty funny article.

And where can I get some of those armor-piercing incendiary rounds? I didn't see those at the store. Must have been in the wrong isle...

50 caliber armor-piercing incendiary rounds widely available in the U.S. civilian market

The Violence Policy Center (VPC), a national tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. (This explains much). Here is a nice article about the Violence Policy Center’s decline.

I didn’t see the date of the article until after I posted it. It’s a VPC series from 2001. Here’s the table of contents from the VPC website:

“50 caliber armor-piercing incendiary rounds widely available in the U.S. civilian market.”

What is he talking about? Widely available? Aren’t armor-piercing incendiary rounds for civilians completely illegal no matter what the caliber?

I’m under the impression that 50 cal rifles and ammo are so expensive that the low life mental defectives who constitute terrorists don’t own them.

What domestic terrorist has ever used this weapon?

Terrorists overseas have access to equivalent weapons manufactured elsewhere. I see no reason whatsoever to ban this firearm.

I promise that if the 50 cal is banned, next they’ll want the evil 30-06 banned. It can kill a man at 1/4 mile in the hands of a newbie shooter using the prone position and an inexpensive telescopic sight.

In addition to penetrating vehicle armor, 50 caliber sniper rifles are capable of downing helicopters, destroying small aircraft, and penetrating the reinforced concrete and masonry walls of buildings.

Plus, they can sink an aircraft carrier and knock down skyscrapers.

/sarc & breathless handwringing alert

I own two "weapons" that can do everything they listed, except maybe down a helicopter. They're called "cars". (They can destroy small aircraft on the ground, okay?)

Ah, those things are a bit hard to walk around with under your average black trench coat.

Also, hitting anything at 1,000 yards or meters takes a bit more than taking it out of the box, slapping a scope on it and starting to blast away.

Me? I have a varied selection from .22 to .58. The proper tool for each and every job.

To: kiriath_jearim; All

This is a targeted hit piece.

The left has ALWAYS intended to use the “police nature” of the terrorist threat to subdue individual rights in the USA.

Just look at the clinton efforts after Oaklahoma, or the FIRST world trad bombing. It was all about restricting PERSONAL constitutional rights of CITIZENS. They never looked outward.

The only answer the left has ever offered was the Gorelick Wall and the neutering of the CIA.

For God’s sake, Al Qaeda has genuine artillery, vehicle mounted 14.5mm machineguns, 155mm artillery shell IEDs, etc. etc. etc. and these bedwetters are wringing their hands over single shot rifles.

If you wussies at the VPC are going to use the saying, let's at least use the correct graphic:
