“50 caliber armor-piercing incendiary rounds widely available in the U.S. civilian market.”

What is he talking about? Widely available? Aren’t armor-piercing incendiary rounds for civilians completely illegal no matter what the caliber?

I’m under the impression that 50 cal rifles and ammo are so expensive that the low life mental defectives who constitute terrorists don’t own them.

What domestic terrorist has ever used this weapon?

Terrorists overseas have access to equivalent weapons manufactured elsewhere. I see no reason whatsoever to ban this firearm.

I promise that if the 50 cal is banned, next they’ll want the evil 30-06 banned. It can kill a man at 1/4 mile in the hands of a newbie shooter using the prone position and an inexpensive telescopic sight.

A sub MOA .50, which the Barrett is costs upwards of $8000 in long range sniper setup. A .338 Lapua in sniper set up would probably be 1/3 that. The gun is good to about 1500 yds.

The .50 is good for either anti personel or anti material, but is pretty much over kill (pardon the pun) for anti personel.

Very few people (very, very few) are good with any gun at 1000 yds.

If a person could consistently group his shots at 200 yds in the area of a quarter, Those same shots at 600 yds would cover a basket ball. At 1000 yds, a road sign the size of a speed limit sign. In other words, a good shooter would be lucky to hit someone at 1000 yds, let alone kill them.

Now imagine trying to hit a vehicle at 1000 yds with a API round. You "might" hit the target, but are you going to hit a vital area.

A world class sniper rifle in the wrong hands is virtually useless. An ordinary gun in the hands of a very well trained sniper, can still be a fairly accurate weapon out to 600 yds. Combine a world class rifle with a world class shooter and 2500 yds is attainable.

"IF" OBL did buy Barretts, at $8000 a pop, his men need ammo, at $2+ a round. They need 1000,s of rounds each just to become relatively profitient.

Next comes training. Where do they train and who trains them? 1000 yds is 6/10's of a mile. You need an area you can maintain for your shooting range. Who will teach you to shoot at 1000+yds? Achmed because he can shoot his m-16 at 400 yds?
