Selling Out the Constitution

The Republican Party, having squandered its electoral authority by succumbing to the dissolute wiles of Washington, appears to have learned nothing from its defeat last November. Faced with a clear challenge to the unambiguous language of the Constitution, many GOP leaders have abandoned their principles. Particularly shocking is the defection of Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).
As a former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Hatch should view himself as a guardian of the Constitution. Instead, he set a low price for violating the document, a price that the Democratic majority says it will eagerly pay: one congressional seat.

we really need a new party for conservatives...period.If we'd had term limits for the last 40 years that probably wouldn't be necessary.
That the Senate is referred to as an "exclusive club" says volumes about this problem.

You can’t have a republic without a constitution, support The Constitution, or stop calling yourself a Republican.
I wonder what these guys were thinking when they took the oath of office?

I wonder what these guys were thinking when they took the oath of office? "Pay no attention to your lying eyes"?
"Do as I say, not as I do"?
"The end justifies the means"?
Just a few possibilities.

It is essential that the Democrats, who want to trample the Constitution on yet another subject, buy off Orrin Hatch. He is one of the leading "defenders of the Constitution" in the Senate, and the proposed "law" on members of Congress would have to pass the Senate. Without Hatch on board, the law would die of a filibuster in the Senate.
With Hatch on board, the law still might die there. But buying him off with a new seat in Congress for Utah, gives this constitutional abomination a chance to pass the Senate. Then it will be up to President Bush to show some backbone (unlike his signing of McCain-Feingold) and veto this atrocity.

It's an option I never would have considered previously, but I confess I am growing impatient with the RINOs that have infiltrated the GOP.
