Romney Addresses '07 Regent Graduates [some skeptical having a Mormon address Christian audience]

CBNNews.com - Virginia Beach, Va - Before the celebrating came the turning of tassels and accepting this charge:

"I want you to strive for greatness through service," said CBN founder Pat Robertson.

The largest class in Regent's history sang a hymn bowed their heads in prayer.

"Father," prayed Pastor Jack Hayford. "We come with hearts of gratitude for each of these graduates."

{snip}

Some say they were initially skeptical about having a Mormon address a Christian audience.

"There were some people who were alarmed," said Regent graduate Cassy McLauchlin. "I was surprised because I just didn't think he was the speaker we would have here, but they let us know he wasn't coming to speak on any theological issues but he was coming to address us at graduation."

You are absolutely right. I may not agree with the Mormon religion but they certainly don’t mince words with their moral standing. Most, if not all, the demorat candidates don’t have a standard for morality. Whatever seems right to one, well, who are they to be intolerant. Of course, this doesn’t extend to those of the Christian faith. Nope, they are intolerant and therefore rules and laws are going to have to be made to keep them under control.

Mormons beleive that angels are also children of God.

BIBLE DICTIONARY - Devil

The English word devil in the KJV is used to represent several different words in Greek, i.e., slanderer, demon, and adversary, and Hebrew, i.e., spoiler. The devil is the enemy of righteousness and of those who seek to do the will of God. Literally a spirit son of God, he was at one time “an angel” in authority in the presence of God; however, he rebelled in the premortal life, at which time he persuaded a third of the spirit children of the Father to rebel with him, in opposition to the plan of salvation championed by Jehovah (Jesus Christ). “Thus came the devil and his angels” (D&C 29: 37). They were cast out of heaven, and were denied the experience of mortal bodies and earth life (Isa. 14: 12-15; Rev. 14: 4-9; 2 Ne. 2: 17; 2 Ne. 9: 8; D&C 29: 36-38; D&C 76: 25-26; D&C 93: 25; Moses 4: 1-4; Abr. 3: 27-28).

Latter-day revelation confirms the biblical teaching that the devil is a reality and that he does strive to lead men and women from the work of God. One of the major techniques of the devil is to cause human beings to think they are following God’s ways, when in reality they are deceived by the devil to follow other paths.

Since the devil and his premortal angels have no physical body of flesh and bones, they often seek to possess the bodies of mortal beings. There are many such instances recorded in scripture (Matt. 9: 32; Matt. 12: 22; Mark 1: 24; Mark 5: 7; Luke 8: 30; Acts 19: 15; cf. Mosiah 3: 6). Such can be evicted by the power of faith in Jesus Christ and the exercise of the holy priesthood. Jesus gave this power to his disciples (Matt. 10: 1; Mark 16: 17; Luke 10: 17; Acts 5: 16; D&C 84: 67).

The devil is called the prince of this world (John 12: 31; John 14: 30; John 16: 11); the adversary (1 Pet. 5: 8); Beelzebub, meaning the prince of the devils (Mark 3: 22); the wicked one (Matt. 13: 38); the enemy (Matt. 13: 39); Lucifer (Isa. 14: 12; D&C 76: 26); Satan (Rev. 12: 9); prince of the power of the air (Eph. 2: 2-3); Perdition (D&C 76: 26); son of the morning (D&C 76: 26-27); that old serpent (Rev. 12: 9; D&C 76: 28); the great dragon (Rev. 12: 7-9); a murderer from the beginning (John 8: 44); a liar from the beginning (D&C 93: 25); and the accuser (Rev. 12: 10).

He is miserable in his situation, and “stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness” (2 Ne. 9: 9). He tries to imitate the work of God by transforming himself nigh unto an angel of light (2 Cor. 11: 12-15; 2 Ne. 9: 9; D&C 128: 20). He is also a worker of miracles, by which he deceives many upon the earth (Rev. 13: 1-15). In fact, the scripture says he deceives the whole world (Rev. 12: 9). He can cite scripture to make his point seem plausible (Matt. 4: 1-11). All of this is his scheme to make man miserable like himself. Protection against the influence of the devil is found by obedience to the commandments and laws of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The message of all the prophets and apostles is that truth, righteousness, and peace shall in the end prevail over error, sin, and war; the faithful shall triumph over all their afflictions and enemies, and shall triumph over the devil. There shall be a complete and lasting victory of righteousness over wickedness on this earth, which will be done by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

>>>True believers will spend all eternity getting to know the Infinite God.

This is pretty much what Mormons believe. How can you get to know an Infinite God without his condescension? IOW, he will impart his knowledge to us and we will become like him. We will begin to understand the infinite as he does. We cannot comprehend it now as limited mortals.

Thanks for your kind comments. I don’t like to argue and contend, so I just quote the Bible. :)

There are a ton of people who view them no different from the Branch Davidians— a nutty cult. My MIL refuses to support Romney because he’s a Mormon.

Please quote from the Bible and not the book of Mormon. Quotes from false prophets are lies.

Of course Jesus did not come to reestablish the Priesthood of Melchesideck. He came as the Messiah to save all man-kind (John 3:16... very simple explanation of His mission).

He also came to graft Israel back into the tree of life (so to speak). Romans 11:23-24.

It is really too bad you haven't had good teaching on the old testement to really know who Melchesideck was. Some scholars say he was Jesus or another manefestation of God the Father.

And it is too bad you weren't taught how the old testement fits into the new testement and don’t understand that Jesus came to fulfill the prophecys of the old testement.

What drew you away from the truth and into a cult of lies?

Sad (not being sarcastic... I mean it) you were blinded and led astray by this cult.

I will not return any more of your msgs. You cannot convince me and it appears I cannot convince you.

I hope and pray your eyes will be opened and see the lies you have let blind you.

Lord bless you my friend.

In polictics... we agree and let’s just keep it that way.

Gary

I don't care either. I vote for the integrity of the person, their political views and their conservativism.

I will NOT vote for a liberal or the wife of a former (recent) impeached President.

I posted this thread because it surprised me that he was invited to speak at a Christian graduation (being a Christian myself) sponsored by Christian men of faith I respect.

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints for over 35 years. That makes me a “Mormon” so I can tell you what I BELIEVE, not what someone else says I believe. The very idea that “Mormons are not Christians” is simply not true. Ask any “Mormon” child who is old enough to talk and they will tell you the stories of Jesus they learn at church and at home. Open any book used by our church and you will find Jesus’ teachings on every page. Walk into any church building and you will see pictures of Jesus on every wall. And if that isn’t good enough for you listen to my words: “I believe in Jesus Christ. He is my Savior and it is only through Him I can be saved from my sins.”

I consider every person who professes to believe in Jesus Christ and strives to live according to His teachings to be a “Christian” and my brother or sister. They may be Catholic, Protestant, Greek Orthodox, Evangelical, Anglican, or even “Mormon.” Jesus is the “Good Shepherd” and He knows His sheep. We will all stand before Him one day to account for our lives. I believe He is going to care a lot about the content of our hearts and what we did to help those around us - in other words, what we did to “feed His sheep.” I don’t think He is going to care much about the labels we assigned to each other.

Well said. Your comments are exactly what I can't articulate. Thanks!

I agree... and thanks for the insight into your religion.

My problem is in all the other Christian religions they all use the same bible --- with some differences such as the Catholic bible has 7 or so added books (Books of Maccabees... or however it's spelled) and the others do not..

The difference is... the Mormons also say the book of mormon is written by prophets from God... and this is dangerous and blasphemous... and I just cannot believe or condone that as a Christian.

However, Mormons are a strong and moral people. They accept Jesus as the Son of God... and most are conservatives... and I call them friends of God and (in their own way) Christians.

I was brought up Catholic and became a born-again believer at 21 (I am 62 now). I call Catholic's Christians as well... I just disagree with how they interpret the Bible (the only Priest we need to confess our sins to is the Father God... and a few other things about their beliefs).

I believe in a God that can discern the heart and knows of my love for Him.

The God in the Holy Bible isn't a liberal. Have you read the bible and seen any indication that he's a flexible kind of guy? He destroyed young children and babies in the flood because he decided they were destined to be irretrievably wicked.

Satan was an ANGEL created by God not a brother to Jesus, Jesus is not a brother to Gabriel, or Michael, angels who are named in the bible. Satan an angel rebelled and was cast out of heaven and caused 1/3 of the angels to follow him. Jesus was not created, he is from the beginning with God eternal, He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and all things were created by Him and through Him and for Him, read the bible folks. Mormons follow the bible but the book of mormon is where they get there doctrine from. You know Joe Smith was found some tablets and was given a special pair of spectacles to read the language on the tablets, he went west and with his book of mormon and their secret underwear, secret ceremonies, plans of re-populating other planets with celestial children, did I miss anything?

It’s okay if English isn’t native to you. I don’t care. It would explain all the oddities in your posts (missing and added words and such).
