As anyone who has spent any time reading news Weblogs such as the Swamp knows, reader comments are central to the lines of communication that are opened by debate over the issues -- or sometimes quirky stories -- of the day. But in the interest of civil debate, comments sometimes are not accepted.
At CBSNews.com, they have found so many offensive comments about Sen. Barack Obama that are objectionable for their racial bias or other prejudice that they are no longer accepting comments on their stories posted about the senator who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president.
It's worth considering what that says about society here in the early years of the 21st Century.
The Swamp's lines are open on all stories, of course, though we insist upon the right to reject objectionable comments about anyone or anything. Read on about the block at CBS:
CBSNews.com has informed its staff via email that they should no longer enable online comments on stories about presidential candidate Barack Obama. The reason for the new policy, according to the email, is that stories about Obama have been attracting too many racist comments.

Obama has big ears.
Censorship, this is aimed at Rush. They had a piece earlier today where they were crabbing about Rush playing the Barack the Magic Negro song. Of course it was “racist” of him. They are trying to set up talk radio(conservative’s prime forum)so they can take it down.
Hitlery has HUGE thights!!
And, from what I hear....her “hubby” has a “little rock”.
One of “those” guys that has a “bra” on his Corvette (having to have a “Vette” being more than enough info.....).
But I find it interesting that this name-calling requires censorship from CBS. Have they ever encountered anyone called President Bush a fascist nazi swine who hates blacks, women and gays? Did CBS find that this sort of language crossed the line? No?
Why is it that poor Barack Obama needs to be protected by the nice white folks at CBS? Can't he handle the tussle of the public forum? Tell me, who will protect him from harsh language when he gets to be president??
Good point, I do wonder how many ‘Bushitler’ posts at SeeBS have been pulled to protect the President...oh, yeah, dozens I bet...
Which Obama was being attacked? The white half or the black half?

Not to worry........Barak Hussein Obama will never be elected as POTUS.
Keep in mind that anyone that “opposes” the Clintons just seem to come out on the “short-side” of things.....
“Fort Marcy Park” ring any bells?
He a swell........a swell, secret service lovin', nappy headed ho!
I think that Mrs. Obama is more of a man than Barrak ever will be. She simply crosses her arms much better!
All jesting aside, these two are about to transform the Democrat party, and it is my guess that hostile dems are the ones who necessitate Barrak's secret service detail.
The rascist comments are coming from Dems. Republicans really could care less. We will take Obamer ahead of the Hildabeast any day.
Two letters....
P.C.
Which is leading us to disaster...imo.
Her “bumper sticker” could fit on the fan-tail of the ENTERPRISE, without much room to spare.
A quick trip to the Swamp verifies several posts here- it’s OK to say extremely rude things about Bush and Cheney and Rice and so on, but bash a dem? Not good.
If Obama is that sensitive that he needs special patrols to clean up online comments, what will happen when some world leader gets in his face?
IMO this is a way to shut down places like FR, because of Hate Speech. Against liberals, not conservatives or constructionists.
Had Vince Foster had the same protection from the beast he might be alive to this day.
I bet cbs does not censor any comments about GWB no matter how offensive.
Agreed in spades.
Because he's the "Magic Negro".
I know I wouldn’t want to be the only man standing between the beast and the dem nomination, Secrret Service protection or not.
