Riot police fired tear gas at stone-throwing protesters gathered in central Paris today to demonstrate against the presidential election victory of right-winger Nicolas Sarkozy, an AFP journalist said.
The clashes took place on the Place de la Bastille where about 5,000 supporters of the defeated Socialist candidate Segolene Royal had gone to await the election results.
Up to 300 rioters, some of whom were masked, made running attacks on riot police who took up positions at the entrance to boulevards leading onto the square.
Earlier a small crowd of protesters, brandishing black and red anarchist flags, set fire to an effigy of Sarkozy in the square before tearing it limb from limb and then stamping on it.

They are saying this is a christian female victory in France. That the majority of france’s females are still religious while the men are all socialist louts. Women are smart enough to notice the rather conspicuous increase in the number of unfriendly, swarmy, increasingly aggressive and disrespectful of law and order young males in their midst.
“That is awful. As bad as Gore and his supporters behaved in 2000, they never resorted to that.”
Yet....
I second the love on your tag line. That one SHOULD be made into a bumper sticker.
not smarmy but swarmy as in truthy as in I screwed it up but these youts do mill and swarm. And yeah, nobody said Royal wouldn’t be a fun date.
“But in Europe they don’t call it a Whopper. They call it a Royal. So when you order it’s like, I’ll have a double Royal with Cheese.”
Interesting. I just googled GMYLF, and Google asked, "Did you mean: milf".
Your post was the third hit, BTW. Google is spidering a lot faster these days than just a few years ago.
The NY Yankees’ top pitching prospects practice hurling fireballs in Paris, France.
(Correction)
Pittsburgh Pirates’ principal pebble-pitching prospects patiently practice pelting Parisian police.
Awesome! Thank you!!
right-winger Nicolas SarkozyJust in case everyone had forgotten.
“I guess we will see shortly if Sarkozy has the spine to back up his tough talk with action.”
My bet is that he will. What does he have to lose by doing so?
Ever notice that the big social changes are usually accompanied by beautiful women?
The French government response to the 2005 riots left a lot to be desired. He was the primary minister in charge of that response. He faced two problems then and the same two problems now. These are 1) the criminal hooligans and hoodlums themselves, and 2) hesitant and unenterprising police and state prosecutors. His challenge is to inspire them with the necessary daring and will power to fight through the push back he is going to get from the left, the lawyers, and the anarchists (and other malefactors) to restore order and law abiding behavior throughout France.
That said. At least he is now free of the constraints he was under as Minister of the Interior. Let’s see how effectively he seizes and wields the totality of the state’s power to persuade and to compel.
Interesting. Ive noticed in most of the victory pictures there seem to be a majority of females celebrating.
I hope they help do the same here in 08 by leaving the democrats in tears.
Disaffected yutes, of course.
Or recount the ballots over and over and over and over again.
Her name (Royal Ségolène) makes me think of that scene in the movie "Pulp Fiction" where they are discussing a McDonalds in France. John Travolta's character says they don't have Quarter Pounders there because they are on the metric system. The other guy asks them what the hell they call the burger then - and Travolta says: "They call it a Royal with Cheese."
It's a quagmire. France out of Paris Now!
I posted my opinion earlier when a Republican gets elected into the US Presidency you will see more of the left having a hissy fit.
the way these people are rioting and burning cars, you’d think they won an NBA championship or something.
