O’Reilly: Media Matters and Soros Funding
News Day.com ^ | May 6, 2007 | Staff

The war of words between Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and the left-wing Web site Media Matters for America has heated up, with O’Reilly accusing the site of lying about funding from Bush-bashing financier George Soros.

On April 24, O’Reilly told viewers of “The O’Reilly Factor” that Soros and several other wealthy radicals were helping to fund Media Matters — which says it is dedicated to “correcting conservative misinformation” in the U.S. media — by donating money to a foundation that in turn contributed to the Web site.

Media Matters countered that while Soros’ Open Society Institute (OSI) did contribute to the foundation, the Tides foundation, and Tides gave Media Matters more than $1 million in 2005, the OSI funds were specifically earmarked for two other beneficiaries. “Soros has never given money to Media Matters, either directly or through another organization,” the Web site stated.

On April 26, O’Reilly responded.

“The vile Media Matters outfit is denying receiving funding from any of George Soros’ outfits,” he told viewers.

“Well, that is a total lie. As we laid out for you, the smear Web site received more than a million dollars from the Tides Foundation alone in 2005, and just by coincidence, Soros’ Open Society Institute donated more than a million dollars to Tides in 2005. Figure it out.”

Media Matters has featured a number of articles critical of O’Reilly on its Web site.

MM is just another spot where their view is deemed to correct one - they spin, slant and distort. Popular with the choir they are preaching to.............rarely are they ever correct.

the OSI funds were specifically earmarked for two other beneficiaries.

When BOR is wrong, he is embarrassingly and infuriatingly wrong.

When he’s right, as he is here, he strikes gold.

Anyone that says anything to expose Media Matters is doing this country a great service with the exception of the liberal Bill O'Reilly. It's almost like he is jealous that Media Matters is taking some of his followers away from him. O'Reilly is a buffoon and a hypocrite.

And the spin stops here.

Who’s watching FOX’s funding? O’Reilly is effectively in favor of amnesty. He’s soft on the second amendment. Why does Murdoch have a home in China, for example? Questions, questions... who’s checking the checkers?

It is always a safe bet, to call any liberal/leftist operation or idividual a liar. A very safe bet — it is how they survive.

Teresa Kerry has also been a major donor to the Tides Foundation through the Heinz Foundation.

Her former husband must be spinning in his grave at her use of his money.

Another donor to the Tides Foundation is Terrraaaza Kerry. When are the cowards in Congress going to close the tax-exemption for all the Leftist foundations? That’s some tax relief that’s long overdue.

"So, are we supposed to love or hate B’OR today? It changes so often." You ain't kidding. Many Freepers change their respective opinion of Bill O'Reilly as often as they change their clothes.

Media Matters gets Soros Money by proxy so that they can maintain there is no relationship.

MEDIA MATTERS FOR AMERICA

"..Media Matters' founder and CEO is David Brock. A reporter for the conservative magazine The American Spectator in the 1990s, Brock (in the aftermath of his biography of Hillary Clinton that brought disastrous reviews) engaged in a public self-denunciation, characterizing all his past writings critical of liberal figures as a confection of lies and slanders. In Brock's present judgment, the mainstream media have fallen under the sway of conservative ideology. He believes that conservatives have moved the mainstream media "to the right and therefore they've moved American politics to the right. … I wanted to create an institution [Media Matters] to combat what they're doing."

Standing behind Brock was John Podesta, a former chief of staff in the Clinton administration and the head of the "progressive" Washington, DC think tank, the Center for American Progress. In 2004 Podesta provided Brock with office space for his fledgling enterprise. Soon after, Media Matters received over $2 million in seed donations from a roster of affluent donors including Leo Hindery Jr., a former cable magnate; Susie Tompkins Buell, a co-founder of the fashion company Esprit and a close ally of Senator Hillary Clinton; James Hormel, a San Francisco philanthropist who nearly served as ambassador to Luxembourg during the Clinton administration; Bren Simon, a Democratic activist and the wife of shopping-mall developer Mel Simon; and New York psychologist and philanthropist Gail Furman. Media Matters, which can accept tax-deductible contributions under section 501(c)(3) of the tax code, has also benefited from the patronage of Peter Lewis, chairman of Progressive Corporation and a longtime consort of leftist financier George Soros..."

Yes, the good old Tides Foundation who opened a local office in P’burgh to accomodate all the left-wing $ that Theresa Heinz could unload on them to spend on her favorite wacko Commie causes.
