Lori Coble beamed as she posed for the camera with her husband and their three small children. Katie was still a baby, perched on Lori's hip. Kyle and Emma in matching white shirts, jeans and flip-flops grinned as they crowded on their dad Chris' lap.
"Kyle, Katie and Emma the crazy monkeys" as the Ladera Ranch family's Web site proclaimed. The kids grew up so fast.
The dream was abruptly shattered about 1:10 p.m. Friday when a big-rig slammed into the back of the family's 2006 Chrysler Town & Country minivan on the southbound Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway north of Oso Parkway.
The three Coble kids were in the back of the minivan, strapped into car seats and booster seats. Lori was driving. Grandmother Cynthia Maestri was in the front passenger seat.
Two-year-old Katie and 5-year-old Kyle were rushed to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. Katie died just before 2 p.m. Four-year-old Emma died minutes later at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, California Highway Patrol officer Katrina Lundgren said.

CHP investigators spent hours questioning the driver, Jorge Miguel Romero, 37, of Apple Valley, who said he saw the traffic backed up, applied the brakes but couldn't stop in time.
Fontana-based leasing company Aurora TRL, which owns the truck, did not return calls for comment.

I read it. It was all about your stupid assumption that this guy is illegal. If you want to act now like this is about trucking safety and not your racial biases, go ahead.
We’re right next door to Mexico, so it’s logical that the majority of immigrants, illegal or otherwise, would be from Mexico.
The biggest illegal group in New York City a few years ago was Irish, but they returned home when the Irish economy picked up. Mexicans also do not want to stay here, and one of the big problems that most US employers have is that once Mexicans get enough money to go home and buy a little business, that’s exactly what they do.
We need some way to let them come here, work and go home if they want, or come here, apply for citizenship if they like it here, and stay and be good Americans.
That’s what most of them want. What most “anti-immigration” posters on FR want is for Hispanic immigrants to be vaporized as soon as the set foot over the border. One of the problems, just from a practical point of view, is that this has driven this group into the arms of the Dems, who were already out there handing out their “dead and illegal voter” bonuses and now have even legals totally on the Dem side. We blew it.
The average trucker nowadays is a more conscientious driver than an automobile driver, AFAIK. I wonder if that distinction will be lost when the nation is full of Mexitrucks?
Alberto R. Gonzales.
There is profiling, and then there is knee-jerk reaction. The later usually results in egg on your face.
Bravo! Amen! Veritas!
Because they profile too.
There is a serious problem with illegal aliens in this country as well as major problems with black American culture, and I am tough on both here.
But you are still both 100% right about people crossing the line.
You’re also right about infiltration...and I find this whole conversation serendipitous as just this evening I came across an entry in Google (which I did not follow!) from Stormfront. It was titled “Infiltrating FreeRepublic”. I literally felt a tingle down my spine.
I know Mr. Robinson would never allow that to happen but it does not mean they do not try. It is, IMO, Conservatisms biggest liability. There is a fine line we need to walk between properly intentioned stands and criticism and bigotry & racism.
LOL! Did you like that? I thought it was pretty durn funny. Actually, when I wrote it I didn't even think about it in that context.
But now that you mention it, with the vocal participation of supporting illegals by Catholic priests, sure, consider it a backhanded swipe at them
Catholic priests can sometimes be well meaning fools. If it’s one thing my excursions into Protestantism have taught me it’s that the Shepperd is not always as wise as the flock.
What do you mean, “will be leaving”? I already left. Good riddance to the DPRK (Demokratik People’s Republik of Kaliforniastan).
Lots of overly sensitive Freepers! One can’t even ask the question? Now who’s engaging in knee jerk reactions?
apparently you are nothing like your moniker,
i made NO assumption that this guy is an illegal, you don’t know squat about me, yet YOU have made plenty of assumptions about a lot of posters,
where did you get that massive chip on your shoulder?
i agree that there are people driving cars that pull in front of truckers and don’t give them enough room to stop, and i also see truckers who should not be driving
point: here in phoenix, we had a trucker in a residential neighborhood, driving a big rig, turn a corner, and run right over and kill a child in a stroller, waiting at the corner with mom, to cross
i see some truckers going way too fast on city streets, running red lights because they can’t stop their 5 ton or more trucks in time
i would rather be hit by a car than a 5 ton truck, traveling too fast (even at the speed limit, the lights are timed for the average passenger vehicle to stop, not a 5-10 ton truck with a huge load)
then, i see plenty of dummies pulling in front of a truck, lessing the room for a trucker to stop safely
less educated (or more non-paying attention) drivers of all vehicles on the road, i think that a lot forget that they are driving a lethal weapon
page out of the liberal play book
criticize illegal immigration, why must be a racist, even if you don’t know squat about me, what ethnic background i have, how “socially conscious” i am, how much i volunteer for the less fortunate, etc.
i was catholic and left the church because of the pedophiles and the lack of action by the hierarchy which is ruining many diocese financially, and the pandering by the bishops, to the pro-illegal immigration groups
watched a video by our bishop last year, which stated that they were going to now move confirmation to 3-4 grade, not 15-16 strictly due to the “latin” traditions (to be more in line with latin america) of confirmation right around the time of the first communion
And this is BEFORE the rickety mexican trucks arrive....
