More likely due to his being a sitting US Senator than his status as a candidate-though the candidacy probably sparked the threat.

Gee, I saw some lib on a news net this morning saying that the threats made by Rage Against the Machine against 43, something about shooting and hanging, were no big deal. Is the USSS going to be paying a call on the group I wonder? Or is it only threats against ‘Rats that get extra special treatment?

Wow. From TexKat's #80: "The Secret Service told CNN no specific threat had been made against Obama." I would hope any candidate who got threats (serious that is) would get protection. This though, seems odd. I wonder what thye real story is, if it's true there was no threat. BTW: George Wallace is another who was shot.

Boston has a city councilor, a woman of "color" that said she was receiving threats, and stopped filing her federal income tax "to pay for the security system". A couple of non-filing years later, the Feds finally caught up to her.

Coretta King was visiting Boston one year, and somebody must have dimed out the city councilor. King's handlers kept the federal-ankle-bracelet-wearing councilor far enough away to prevent the two from appearing in any pictures.
