He has never called for the deportation of all illegal immigrants, but Lou Dobbs believes the U.S. could pull off such a feat if it really wanted to. The CNN anchor, whose stance against illegal immigration has helped raise his ratings but also fueled criticism, speaks to Lesley Stahl for a profile to be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday, May 6 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Dobbs is against amnesty programs for illegal immigrants and the president's guest worker proposal, so Stahl wonders whether Dobbs thinks the government could deport all illegal immigrants. "I've never called for their deportation,"says Dobbs. "But at the same time, when this president and open-borders, illegal-alien-amnesty advocates say, 'You can't deport them,' my answer is, 'You want to bet?' because this is the United States. I think this country can do anything it sets its mind to," he tells Stahl.
The former host of "Moneyline" for over 20 years, a business program on CNN, Dobbs has transformed himself into a purveyor of "News, debate and opinion" in the words used to introduce his current CNN program, "Lou Dobbs Tonight." The debate is often about illegal immigration. He is a believer in curtailing illegal immigrants' access to some social services. "I happen to think that it is necessary, given the fact that the federal government won't control immigration and won't control our borders," Dobbs tells Stahl. Dobbs says he's not for shutting off medical services, but illegal immigrants' use of other entitlements and the public schools is problematic. "Going to food stamps Ð should taxpayers be paying for food stamps? Should taxpayers be burdened with schools that are overcrowded?" Dobbs asks. "[Taxpayers'] children, therefore, are being denied education. Those are very serious issues," he says.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus accused Dobbs of being anti-Hispanic for these types of views. "I was asked if I'd ever eaten a taco before, for God's sake," says Dobbs, who has been married to a Mexican-American for 25 years. Hispanics have called for his job and Dobbs finds such criticism ironic because he grew up on a small farm and picked crops alongside migrants. "I am probably one of the few people in the debate who actually has [worked with migrants]. I've got the greatest respect for those folks," he tells Stahl.
Dobbs' opinions are a main feature of his nightly program, behavior that would exclude him from the classic definition of journalist as an objective reporter. Nevertheless, he still considers himself a journalist. Here's his opinion on that: "The idea that a reporter should be disqualified because he or she actually cares, actually isn't neutral about the well-being of the country and its people, that's absurd," he tells Stahl.

You’d be wrong about that, just like you’re wrong about illegal immigration.
Good post. Thanks for info AuntB.
Amnesty is NOT the answer!
That quote of his has always irked me. I don't count the catch-and-release of Mexicans at the border as being deported. Too many people assume that Bush rounded up 6 million people and formally deported them. Fat chance of that happening.
You guys just think I make this stuff up as I go. LOL
Heaven's no! ;^)
I would have hoped by this time most Americans would have gotten the idea they need to educate themselves so they don’t have to compete for jobs changing sheets in hotels.
That is certainly a statement of opinion, not of fact. Actually 2 statements.
Your plan is so simple and obvious that it must be discounted in the public arena, therefore you are a racist! /pro-invasion debating tactic
Seriously though, I think you may need to rethink the part about deporting those that seek emergency treatment. The lib media would run story after story about how the illegals are dying because they are afraid to go to the emergency room?
Of course, they will still run ‘victim’ stories about the illegals but I think the emergency treatment angle would be effective propaganda in America today.
Nice dodge. No go. We import thousands of foreign students every year (650, 000 of ‘em last year). Schools are full of illegal aliens and anchor babies. I guess you haven’t noticed that we are NOT educating our children, we’re spending all our resources trying to educate the rest of the world, and it isn’t working. There are not enough colleges for all our kids to get the education, whether they are smart enough or not. Some people are not suited for higher learning, and all your economic excuses on this earth won’t change that fact. Does that mean they are not entitled to the jobs you wish to give to foreign lawbreakers?
And you obviously haven't been reading this board, or you'd know true conservatives don't want RINO Rudy to even be considered for the GOP nomination. We'd like to focus on genuine more qualified Republicans.
Have a nice day...sw
“Seriously though, I think you may need to rethink the part about deporting those that seek emergency treatment. The lib media would run story after story about how the illegals are dying because they are afraid to go to the emergency room?”
The counter point would be ‘would you rather we deny them treatment?’
We don’t owe them a thing.
Well I haven’t watched 60 Mins. since the Klintoons lied on the program...
but I just might record it Sunday.
Ditto with State Driver's Licenses and IDs. In some states, they will give them out to illegals. (We can't have someone who is in this country illegally, flaunting our immigration and work laws, break our Motor Vehicle Code, now can we?)
I know that there is the "uniform document act" or some such that is suppose to require states to make their Driver's Licenses and State IDs more secure, but that is still a state by state thing, and as was shown here in Michigan, Secretary of State workers will still sell lawful IDs to illegals for a few bucks. Therefore you cannot trust the validity of a State ID.
Combine the illegal immigrant problem with the airport security problem, and we are heading towards the day when we will be required to carry a National ID or Internal Passport.
Now, where did I put my tinfoil? My head is getting cold...
Why not just put them on welfare then? Anyone who wants an education in this country can get one. We have all kinds of technical schools community colleges etc. What do you want for low skill workers union wages all the regulations that make it unprofitable to operate in this country. We’ll lose more jobs. Look what happened to GM.
‘Anyone can forge one, steal one, or buy on on the streets.”
correct, but only to a point. You can verify if the number provided is ‘valid’ and if ‘death benefits’ have been paid out associated with it. You can also verify the previous names and addresses associated with it, then compare that to the physical characteristics of the applicant, and with the addresses listed by same.
That costs a whole 45 cents, and less than 30 seconds with the correct software and database, again easily obtained and very cheap.
You don’t need biometrics for 95% of all the job openings in this country, a simply SNN verification works just fine.
If you freep mail me, I’ll explain to you directly how I know all this stuff professionally.
? = .
Danged punctuation goblins!
Lib hacks do not want the illegals deported they are for amnesty for the ones here already.
In light of the MayDay socialist demonstrations and their hatred for our Administration and this Country they are a threat to this country and need to be deported and fast.
Here’s a Free Republic search for the keyword “World War IV”. There are lots of articles.

I used to believe that. Show me where there are more slots in colleges/universities than kids getting out of school. There aren't enough! When you are a young citizen, poor, having to work (if you can get the job away from an alien)the pell grants will not get you by. I know, I paid for several kids to go to school. Last one that tried to attend comm. college was told,SORRY, all FULL!
Just because this influx has not harmed you, doesn't mean it's not real.
When the barrio moved into my neighborhood my family lost a million dollars on real estate.
And I'm getting sick of paying for your cheap illegal labor.
Oh do tell? Please, inform US a bit about the "Buchanan Brigades" mimaw. Smell of Troll in the air. Blackbird.
