MAYOR GIULIANI DELIVERS REMARKS AT NARAL'S 16TH ANNUAL AWARDS RECEPTION
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani tonight joined the members of the National Abortion & Reproductive Rights Action League of New York State (NARAL/NY) for the group's 16th Annual Gala Awards Reception at B. Smith's Restaurant in Manhattan.
This year's awards were presented to Wendy Mackenzie, for her work in several pro-choice organizations; Department of Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg for promoting a policy that reproductive healthcare must be viewed as part of the overall scope of healthcare; Christy Haubegger, founder of the bilingual magazine Latina, which tackles issues like abortion and birth control; and Claudia Crown Ades, who underwent an abortion in her sixth month of a non-viable pregnancy and has worked diligently to keep this procedure legal.
"As many of you may know, I have a long record of support for the struggles women have endured to gain equality in our society," said Mayor Giuliani. "And personally, I've always had great empathy for the obstacles women have had to overcome throughout this century. Perhaps the most intense struggle has been over the right of choice.
"For 25 years, NARAL/NY has worked legislatively and electorally to protect women's access to safe and legal abortion and expand the full range of reproductive rights to all women, regardless of age, race or income," the Mayor added. "I congratulate NARAL/NY for taking the time to honor these outstanding four women and, on behalf of all New Yorkers, I would like to thank each honoree for her strength, dedication, and courageous efforts to ensure that future generations of American women have the right to choose."
Thanks JR...I needed this post.

PING!
I respect all your feelings, but I'm a new yorker who KNOWS Rudy, and he has America's best interests at heart, he is beholdin to no one and would be one of the country's best presidents EVER.
Sooooo, Mr. Giuliani can’t expect your support in the primaries, I take it? ;-)
It's your site and you are against Rudy. We all know that, who are you for?
I am a 55 year old woman, and I have never had to “struggle” for any equality. My mother did not have to “struggle” for equality. In fact, all this “struggle” has done for me was remove some of the advantages I had as a woman. Mr G will not receive a vote of mine, even if he is the nominee.
well just to keep things balanced .... I’m glad that some real conservatives have chosen to HOLD THE LINE in the battle for America.
If rudy is our best shot then we have already lost , but I for one , am not willing to give up so quickly.
Thanks three times today!
So far?
So Rudi’s supporting the killing of kids is ok because of his other positive attributes?
Hitler did make the trains run on time, and the German economy was flat out humming by the late 30’s....
No man with his view of liberty and the Constitution can EVER be said to hold America’s best interests at heart.
Rudy has Rudy’s best interests at heart and always has.
Its almost ‘McCain like’ with Guiliani these days.
McCain spent the past fifteen years overtly infuriating conservatives, Christians, etc.
This is the last thing in the world Rudy should do at this moment in his campaign....and if I can see it, you have to wonder about his overall judgement on any topic.
He won’t gain a single vote he doesn’t already have in his pocket....so whats the logic here?
Thank you for the link.
Information is power.
Some people prefer to stick their heads in the sand.
Most want the facts so they can make an informed decision.
Thanks for the post.
Repeating this mantra over and over again does not make it true.
In fact, if Chthullo is the 'rat nominee, she will do what a whole pack of congressional candidate rats did in the '06 debacle -- blow away JulieAnnie in the general election by cross dressing as moderate and running to the RIGHT of him. And that will not take much work.
Rudy has some admirable qualities, but no conservative would have ever made the remarks attributed to him. I also cannot forgive him for supporting Cuomo over Pataki.
When one man, and one man alone becomes indispensible, the adherents of that cause should carefully examine their dogma to make sure their beliefs are still those of the cause, and not blind faith in the individual.
