Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) issued a subpoena Wednesday for all e-mails from White House adviser Karl Rove that relate to the firings of eight U.S. attorneys. Attached please find a subpoena compelling the Department by May 15 to produce any and all emails and attachments to emails to, from, or copied to Karl Rove related to the Committees investigation into the preservation of prosecutorial independence and the Department of Justices politicization of the hiring and firing and decision-making of United States Attorneys, from any (1) White House account, (2) Republican National Committee account, or (3) other account, in the possession, custody or control of the Department of Justice, Leahy said in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
The senator had requested the information from Gonzales when the attorney general testified before the committee and in a follow-up letter. However, Leahy said that Gonzales did not respond.
I continue to hope that the Department will cooperate with the Committees investigation, but it is troubling that significant documents highly relevant to the Committees inquiry have not been produced, Leahy said in the letter.
Indeed, despite multiple requests for the Department to produce documents voluntarily related to the Committees investigation into the mass firings of U.S. Attorneys and politicization at the Department, the Departments production of documents has been selective and incomplete, Leahy added. Many documents have been withheld or redacted without any legal basis being set forth."
Leahy said the Department of Justice has until May 15 to comply with the subpoena.
I hope Rove ignores it.
Is this stupid thing still going on? Does anyone care?
Fire 'em.
Regards,
Dick
Dear Senator Leahy:
Pound sand!
Sincerely,
Karl Rove
Why is Congress in the business of prosecuting people? Seems like there is no legislative purpose for this. Another case of the Dems thinking that they run the executive branch.
Rove to Leahy: "Go Fish! You #@&%!
I hope he replies with a stinging indictment as to the political nature of this subpoena.
The Congress gave the President the power to fire these people under the Patriot Act and then, when they started making political hay out of this with Gonzales, they quietly took back that power. But since it happened prior they really don’t have any jurisdiction. But they’re keep doing it because the MSM won’t point this out and it’ll look like one more count in the surrender-crats indictment against Bush and Bush and his people won’t stand up and fight for themselves and the gutless Congressional Republicans won’t either.
Since they are all political appointees, what is the point?
This is such an obvious fishing trip that it is simply laughable. The Dems hate Rove so much that they will try to find anything on him so they can get him in front of committee. Once in front of committee, they will convolute the discussion so they can trump up a perjury charge against him. Their ultimate goal is to see him destroyed and in jail. They hate him that much. It’s pathological.
Get a life Leahy. Someone supboena Leahy’s brain since it seems to be in hiding.
What a kook
Time to ignore the MSM. They no longer matter. Rove needs to tell the dems to go eff themselves.
I should explain my reasoning.....(chuckle)
After watching Leahy have a hissy fit a couple of weeks ago in the Senate, it occurs to me he becomes absolutely ‘enraged’ at the drop of a hat.
The easiest way to ‘enrage’ a liberal is to ignore them completely.
If Rove doesn’t respond...maybe Leaky Leahy will have a seizure...
Rove should quote Joe Biden (re Presdident Bush) to Leaky Leahy and offer to “stuff it down his throat”
How about “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours”
I believe this is directed to Gonzales and not Rove. They think Gonzales has some emails from Rove. It’s just another fishing expedition to try and find something on Rove. They will continue to do this through 08 or until Rove decides to leave the White House. Maybe he could sign on to the Thompson campaign.
(chuckle)
ROTFL!
