TERRORISM FOCUS
“Jihadis Encourage Lone Acts of Terrorism”
By Abdul Hameed Bakier
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A new article posted on the jihadi forum alhanein.com on May 4, entitled “Supporting the Islamic State by Single-Handed Terrorism,” instructs Islamist fighters to conduct lone acts of terrorism against people and groups involved with the Iraqi government. The article is authored by a user with the name Fahid al-Hadaithi who is relatively new to the forum (his first post was in February of this year), but already has more than 500 posts attributed to his name.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “When conducting individual terrorist acts, al-Hadaithi says that the mujahid fighter does not have to belong to a group physically since that could compromise his mission. While individual teams are recommended, al-Hadaithi says that the largest possible cell should include no more than five people.”

COVENTRY -
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The Coventry Emergency Management Agency and the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency jointly sponsored the exercise involving a simulated emergency.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The subjects walked unnoticed through the chorus and band area and were approached by Kim Sturdhal, a behavioral specialist at the school. The subjects shot Sturdhal and threw their chlorine bombs. An administrator heard the commotion and called for a lockdown of the school.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “First the students underwent gross decontamination, in which they were sprayed down by a fire hose. Next, the students entered a decontamination tent in which a team in fully enclosed suits washed the chemicals off the students. Ambulatory students were able to walk through the tent and non-ambulatory victims rode a conveyor belt through the tent.
“There are four chambers inside the tent,” said Frank Brown, Hopkins Hill Fire District chief. “There is an undress chamber, a wash chamber, a rinse chamber, and a redress chamber. They are washed with warm water and Johnson’s Baby Shampoo because that works best and is much less intrusive. The students are IDed by priority of who needs medical attention, and shipped to the hospital. It is a critical step to get the chemicals off the victims and to prevent the chemicals from getting on anyone else.””

“Laos earthquake shakes Bangkok, Hanoi buildings”
By Crispian Balmer and Jon Boyle
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “BANGKOK (Reuters) - A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck northern Laos on Wednesday, shaking buildings as far away as Bangkok some 800 km to the south, and Hanoi to the east.
Shoppers fled some of the Thai capital’s many malls in panic and some high-rise office blocks were evacuated after they swayed.
People in Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital, also felt the tremor and office workers were ordered to leave some tall buildings.

“The building shook quite a bit and we were told to evacuate,” said Michael DiGregorio, a programme officer at the Ford Foundation, a U.S. philanthropic organisation with offices on the 15th floor of a Hanoi building.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said on its Web site (http://earthquake.usgs.gov) the quake hit at 0856 GMT with its epicentre 92 miles (148 km) from the ancient Lao capital of Luang Prabang.”

Livni: Israel to act on ending Sderot attacks
Published: 05.17.07, 12:55 / Israel News
In the absence of an effective plan by the international community to stop the rocket fire towards Sderot, Israel will act to end the attacks on its citizens, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Thursday during a telephone conversation with Germanys foreign minister.
Israel expects the European Union to be involved in diplomatic efforts to stop Qassam fire, Livni added, and demanded that Europe unequivocally condemn the rocket attacks. (Ronny Sofer)

Suspect in Fort Dix plot asks for bail
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) Of the six men charged last week with plotting to attack soldiers at Fort Dix, Agron Abdullahu had the smallest role - and did not intend to kill anyone, prosecutors say.
But, the U.S. Attorney’s Office argues, he should still be held in a detention center until his case is decided.
A judge on Thursday was to decide whether he should be freed on bail.
Abdullahu, 24, is charged with helping illegal immigrants obtain weapons, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
(snip)
He told an FBI informant he did not intend to kill anyone but wanted to learn about bomb making “just in case somebody pushes me to the limits,” according to a government legal brief filed Wednesday. (snip)

LAX terminal evacuated after inactive mortar shells found in luggage
BY JASON KANDEL, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 05/17/2007 07:52:28 AM PDT
Travelers were evacuated from Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International Airport last night after baggage screening equipment detected two inactive World War II-era mortar shells inside luggage at a security checkpoint, police said this morning.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad were called out to the airport just before 10 last night, said Los Angeles Police Officer Karen Smith, a spokeswoman.
Officials found the shells, inert novelty mock World War II drop bombs, which weighed about 5 pounds and were 10-inches long, inside the luggage of an unidentified woman in her 30s traveling to Canada. The bomb squad determined that the shells were not a threat and the shells were confiscated. The woman was not arrested.
About two hours later, the evacuated passengers were allowed back into the airport.

Explosion may have caused fish kill *Barbados*
Published on: 5/17/07.
AN EXPLOSIVE of unknown origin might have been responsible for the recent fish kill along the northern and eastern shorelines.
This was the word yesterday from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“The types of injuries observed in the specimens, such as bloody eyes, bleeding from the gill region and the anus, along with general disfigurations in many, were consistent with the fish being exposed to a strong blast of some kind,” the ministry explained in a statement.
However, the Fisheries Department will continue investigations into the incident which left hundreds of fish dead. The species mostly affected were John Jacks which washed up on the beaches of River Bay, St Lucy; Martin’s Bay, St John; and Cattlewash and Bathsheba in St Joseph. (BGIS)
