A 29 year old terror suspect tried recently to smuggle a letter out from Ringerike Prison. The prison is the most secure in Norway and the 29 year old, whom Norway police think is the leader of a Norwegian terror cell, had sat in isolation for the past two month. The reason, according to TV 2 is that he had recently tried to smuggle a letter out of the the prison asking one of the other suspects in the case to remove weapons and tracks.
The friend's lawyer says his client said during police questioning that he did not know what the contents of the letter meant. Petar Sekulic was quoted as saying that his client had been questioned about weapons both earlier and in the recent questioning but that he doesn't know the people mentioned in the letter and has no idea what he was asked to do.
John Christian Elden, the 29 year old's lawyer, is critical of his client's smuggling attempt, but says that his client has been in isolation for a long time without any reason. Since his arrest last September he had sat over 150 days in isolation. His lawyer thinks the letter was an attempt to contact an acquaintance whom the police was preventing him from talking to. The 29 year old is accused for being a member of a terror cell, along with a 27 year old co-suspect. Together they planned to blow up the Israeli and American embassies. He is also suspected of a murder attempt and for shooting the Jewish synagogue in Oslo last year.

Alabamastan? Military Training Camp for Islamists in Alabama Immediately Before 9/11
5/28/2007
London has become known as Londonistan in intelligence and anti-Islamist circles. Recently, however, we came across an archive of an Islamist web site with known links to al-Qaida, advertising "The Ultimate Jihad Challenge", a two-week fire arms course where Muslims would be taught "practical" skills and "class theory is kept to a minimum." This is a British organization. But rather than training their "forces" in the United Kingdom, they organized a military camp in Marion, Alabama.
Among the people trained at the camp were bodyguards for Abu Hamza, a British terrorist. Hamza is associated with the Islamic Army of Aden, a Yemeni terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the USS Cole bombing in October of 2000. The FBI believes that Hamza is an al-Qaeda recruiter. He has met in London with Zacarias Moussaoui.

WASHINGTON -- A new report by a leading U.S. military expert on China raises the disturbing possibility that Beijing may be trying to develop the capability to destroy entire U.S. aircraft carrier battle groups in the Pacific Ocean by targeting them with nuclear-armed ICBMs.
Defense News reported Monday that Larry Wortzel, commissioner of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission and a leading American expert on China's military capabilities, issued the warning in a new report entitled "China's Nuclear Forces: Operations, Training, Doctrine, Command, Control, and Campaign Planning." The study was published this month by the U.S. Army War College's prestigious Strategic Studies Institute.
Defense News noted that the implication of Wortzel's report was that if the new Chinese strategy is confirmed, it could lower the bar for starting a nuclear conflict with the United States.

10,000 Pakistani police withdrawn from mosque operation
Sun, 27 May 2007
Islamabad- Angry Pakistani police chiefs have withdrawn 10,000 officers earmarked for a possible storming operation against a radical mosque in Islamabad after they were abandoned without food, water or accommodation by authorities, media reported Sunday.
Constables drafted into the capital this month from the Punjab province during an escalation of the government's row with clerics at the Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, spent days sleeping rough in parks and on footpaths, often forced to beg supplies from nearby homes.

IMO, that implies they are protecting other members of the cell that are still out in the general population and most likely not under surveillance.
I agree with you and I speculate that “tracks” could possibly be an internet trail.
Or we could speculate going another direction and he was asking someone to remove tracks ie train tracks. Possibly a go signal.
I hope my second speculation is wrong.

Yemen buys bombs off civilians in arms crackdown
May 27, 2007
Yemen has spent millions of dollars in recent months buying up bombs, artillery, even anti-aircraft guns, from ordinary civilians as part of a crackdown in the Arab country where arms are openly carried.
Yemen's cabinet launched a campaign last month to shut down shops selling weapons without a license and confiscate unlicensed weapons. It also said that millions of dollars would be spent buying up weapons from heavily-armed tribesmen, in a country where tribes remain strong and resist government control.
In a tour organised by the Defence Ministry, journalists were shown this week three large stores of weapons rounded up from Yemenis in recent months. The weapons included mortars, surface-to-air missiles, anti-tank shells, rocket-propelled grenades as well as large quantities of mines, explosives and ammunition.

Preparing for Jihad in Alabama - Islamic Militant Training Camp Allegedly Operating in Alabama
ABCnews.com | 7/25/02 | Brian Ross
Posted on 07/25/2002 4:38:02 PM PDT by freeperfromnj
July 25 A training camp linked to Islamic militants has been operating in Alabama, and European law enforcement officials believe Muslim extremists were using it to prepare for a holy war.
British authorities also thought that militants from overseas were training in the United States to take advantage of America’s gun laws, sources told ABCNEWS. The looming question for law enforcement is whether there is a connection between the camp and the al Qaeda terror network.
An investigation by Britain’s Scotland Yard led to the discovery of the camp in Marion, Ala. The facility is called “Ground Zero USA.”
Bullet-riddled police cars and a school bus with mannequin targets are scattered around the property. Inside a huge shed is an equally macabre scene shot-up mannequins, male and female, in domestic settings, some with red, blood-like stains on them.
Ground Zero’s operators promised state-of-the-art, world-class training in automatic weapons, urban warfare, SWAT tactics and martial arts, supposedly to fight terror attacks.
Marion Police Chief Tony Buford said he became suspicious of the use of police cars and buses as targets.
“It was rumored that the camp here was used as training site for possible people that were sent here to do bodily harm to Americans,” Buford told ABCNEWS.
Web Site Provides Terror Link
The suspected terror ties of the Alabama camp were unknown until after Sept. 11, when officials in London arrested an accused al Qaeda supporter, Zain-ul-Albidin
He is charged with operation of a Web site, under the name of Sakina Security, allegedly recruiting Muslims for an Islamic jihad or holy war. He is now on trial in London.
The site, since taken down by British authorities, described what seemed to be the Alabama camp, including live-fire exercises at a state-of-the-art shooting range in the United States something that would not be legal in Britain.
“In the United States, it is not illegal for anyone to receive military training, high-grade military training,” said Rohan Gunaratna, author of Inside Al Qaeda.
The actual owners of camp, who are also British, say it was used primarily to train law enforcement personnel. Officials consider them unwitting accomplices. The camp owners declined to talk to ABCNEWS.
Scale of Secret Camps Unknown
It is not known how many holy war recruits came through the camp or when. But the FBI is now investigating a number of suspected training camps around the country.
“We know of a number of cases where Islamic terrorists came and training in this country in the early 1990s. It is likely that this scale of training is still continuing,” Gunaratna said.
The most radical and belligerent of London’s Islamic clerics, Abu Hamza, told ABCNEWS in a phone call that America’s laws make such paramilitary training easy, “like a picnic.”
British intelligence officials told ABCNEWS they are closely examining alleged ties between Hamza, who is said to have recruited alleged “20th hijacker” Zacarias Moussaoui, and Zain-ul-Albidin.
A Palestinian who escaped from Italy while on parole for the 1985 hijacking of cruise ship Achille Lauro is holed up in the Lebanon refugee camp where the army is besieging Islamist militants.
Bassam al-Ashker, now 39, told Agence France Presse by telephone that he is now a militiaman for the mainstream Fatah faction of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and saw it as his duty to brave the fighting to help the thousands of trapped civilians. Ashker was just 17 when he took part in the assault on the Achille Lauro by commandos of the Palestine Liberation Front of Abu Abbas in which some 450 passengers were held hostage for several days and a wheelchair-bound U.S. tourist was killed.
He told AFP he had retained his radical anti-Western politics and, after fleeing Italy in 1991 following his release on parole from nearly six years in jail, spent 14 years in Iraq before moving to Lebanon's Nahr al-Bared refugee camp. "I organize the training of young Palestinian recruits who we send to fight the Americans alongside the Iraqi resistance," Ashker told AFP. "I have even fought them myself in Fallujah and Ramadi," two rebel bastions west of Baghdad.
Despite his anti-Western views, Ashker insisted he had no link with the Islamist fighters of fringe militant group Fatah al-Islam who are under siege by the Lebanese army and stand accused of using camp residents as human shields. "They have certainly proved their military prowess," he said referring to the fighting of the past week in which 33 Lebanese soldiers but only 25 of the group's fighters were among the 78 dead. "If they had used it to fight Israel, I would have been the first to join them, but they are fanatics who believe only in religion and have no regard of the consequences of their actions on civilians," he said. "Not along time ago, Muslim clerics reminded them that it was wrong to attack Palestinians or Lebanese but they retorted that their religion took primacy over everything else."
Despite his disdain for the Fatah al-Islam fighters, Ashker insisted he had no intention of leaving the Nahr al-Bared camp, where living conditions have been deteriorating amid chronic shortages of water, food and power. "It is shameful for a young man to leave the camp -- we need all the help we can get," he said. "My men are organizing food and drink for trapped civilians, notably by going up on the rooftops to get water from the cisterns there, which is dangerous because of sniper fire. We're also organizing patrols to prevent burglaries from the homes of residents who have fled."

Coalition Forces Capture, Kill Terrorists in Iraq
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, May 27, 2007 Coalition and Iraqi forces killed and captured terrorists, weapons caches and bomb-making materials during operations in Iraq over the past two days.
Intelligence reports directed Iraqi and coalition forces to a residence in Baghdad where they captured an individual believed to have ties to a secret cell terrorist network. The network is known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosives from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training.
In other operations, coalition forces in Baghdad today targeted al-Qaeda in Iraq, detaining 18 suspected terrorists and destroying a cache of weapons and bomb-making materials.
The soldiers were operating from information gleaned from a May 21 operation. The forces detained five individuals with suspected ties to the al-Qaeda network. One individual said he had attended an IED-making class in a building nearby.
The coalition forces moved on to that building and found a cache of weapons, explosives and improvised explosive device-making materials. The cache contained three fully assembled IEDs, two artillery rounds, multiple IED triggers, eight rifles and assorted IED components.
In Mosul, coalition forces detained six individuals in two separate raids targeting al-Qaeda cell leaders in the city. Outside Fallujah, coalition forces picked up four more suspects.
Yesterday, coalition forces killed two terrorists and captured three suspects near Taji, northwest of Baghdad. One of the suspects is believed to be an al-Qaeda senior leader whose group supplies vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices for use in the Taji area. The group is also known to be responsible for indirect fire and IED attacks on Iraqi and coalition forces.
Coalition forces operating near Karmah yesterday found a cache of weapons and explosives, including 10 homemade bombs, a 55-gallon drum of ammonium nitrate, 200 anti-aircraft rounds and an anti-aircraft artillery mount and a dump truck outfitted with a detonation cord. Coalition Forces detained two suspected terrorists and safely destroyed the weapons cache on site.

Afghan Forces Capture Al Qaeda, Taliban Leaders
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, May 27, 2007 Afghan and coalition forces continued operations in Afghanistan over the past three days, resulting in the capture of Taliban and al Qaeda leaders.
On May 25, Afghan National Police detained an al Qaeda leader known only as Mujahid in the Bak District of Khowst Province. The police detained two men who were affiliated with the al Qaeda leader.
The terrorist leader has been responsible for multiple improvised explosive device and suicide bomber attacks in Khowst Province. He targeted schools and government officials resulting in the deaths of dozens of innocent civilians. He has also been involved in weapons smuggling and supplying logistics to other al Qaeda fighters.
The removal of Mujahid will help bring peace and stability to the Afghan civilians in Khowst Province, said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force- 82 spokesperson. Intelligence gained from this al Qaeda cell leader will surely lead us to other al Qaeda members.
Afghan Border Police detained Taliban leader Sayed Gulab in the Pachir Wa Agam district of Nangarhar province on May 24. The border police had received intelligence on the notorious Taliban area commander and improvised explosive device cell facilitator. The police moved quickly to the village of Shir Wagan and detained him. He is being held in a coalition detention center.
Gulab is suspected of being responsible for emplacing IEDs in the Pachir Wa Agam district resulting in the injuries and deaths of innocent Afghan civilians and Afghan National Security Forces. He is also known to have extensive connections with other senior Taliban and Al Qaeda leadership in Nangarhar and Pakistan.
In an unrelated incident, Afghan and coalition officials said an estimated 50 Taliban members stole a stockpile of United Nations World Food Program goods intended for Afghan civilians in the Khas Oruzgan District of Oruzgan Province on May 25.
The thieves, under the cover of darkness, took bulk food, clothing and survival items intended for thousands of Afghan civilians living in the District. Maliks and village elders protested the crime and reported the incident to Afghan National Security and coalition forces operating in the area. Those forces are working with local government officials to track down the Taliban criminals and recover the stolen goods.
The World Food Program is the United Nations front-line agency in the fight against global hunger. The organizations goal is to provide 525 metric tons of food aid to 6.6 million Afghans through various projects and programs by December 2008. The agency focuses on relief and resettlement for internally displaced persons and refugees including food for work and education programs.
Since June 2006, there have been 16 incidents in which enemy fighters attacked World Food program convoys. The attacks are aimed at depriving hundreds of thousands of Afghans of deperately needed food.
In other action, Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces received rocket-propelled grenade and mortar fire from an unknown-size element of enemy fighters at a coalition base in the Sangin District of Helmand Province.
Enemy fighters quickly retreated into nearby compounds when Afghan and coalition forces returned fire. From four compounds, enemy fighters continued to fire upon the coalition base. Close-air support was then requested and directed to fire on the four enemy positions.

“Israeli experts: Syria has secret underground ‘missile city’”
Monday, 30 April, 2007 @ 1:44 PM
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Beirut & Damascus - Syria has built a fortified complex buried deep underground and cloaked in secrecy to manufacture and store ballistic missiles capable of striking Israel, an Israeli newspaper said on Monday.
The complex includes 30 reinforced concrete bunkers, production facilities, development laboratories and command posts, the mass-selling Yediot Aharonot quoted “foreign experts” as saying, without specifying its location.
The “missile city” houses mainly Scud missiles capable of reaching anywhere in Israel. Given its weak air power, Damascus is boosting its arsenal of surface-to-surface missiles and protecting them in the complex, Yediot said.
According to the paper, Syria has 200 Scud-B missiles, 60 Scud-C and a certain number of North Korean Scud-D missiles with a range of 700 kilometres (434 miles), and has developed chemical warheads for all its Scuds.
The chemical warfare agents are stored in a separate facility, Yediot quoted the foreign experts as saying.
It also said that Iran recently supplied Syria with around 100 Chinese shore-to-sea C-802 missiles — the same missile that Hezbollah used to hit an Israeli warship during last year’s Lebanon war.”
