Let me put this another way. Who should have the final say regarding someone who is comatose? Should it be the family member or the wife? Should this issue be resolved at the Federal level or at the state level?

Why does Fred Thompson oppose a Human Life Amendment?If you believe that human life protection by the Constituion is not left to the people and their state laws then why are you for a Human Life Amendment, when you could have a federal -- law.

The amendment is needed because folks [like you, unfortunately] can’t seem to understand the straightforward meanings of such simple word concepts as “unalienable,” “posterity,” or “person.”
If the founders had known that Americans would get so dumbed-down, I’m certain they would have clarified further. Of course, no amount of clarification will indemnify against blatant dishonest interpretation, which is the real problem in many cases.

No. Prior to Roe, states were permitted to ban abortion or legalize abortion on demand. You don't really believe that, do you?
How can anyone argue that abortion-on-demand is compatible with the Preamble with the U.S. Constitution?
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
No state had the right, pre- or post-Roe, to kill our posterity. To assert such is preposterous. It's against one primary purpose of our federal union.

New York legalized abortion-on-demand in 1970, several other states followed. At the time of the
Roe decision, only 31 states barred abortion except for the life of the mother.
It's not a matter of what I or anyone believes, it is an ascertainable fact.

Another appeal FDT may have, is a slight resemblance to Dwight D. Eisenhower, who had the image of a father figure. There the resemblance ends, for DDE was the man in charge of the European theatre of WWII, and achieved victory for America there. In fact, actor FTD could play the role of DDE on the screen, but does he have the qualifications to be president in Real Life?

Tell us, how many states once countenanced slavery?
Not all actions by a state are constitutional. Ones that directly violate the Preamble are obviously in error. Ones that take life are even more egregious, in the aftermath of a Civil War that brought us the Fourteenth Amendment.
No state can take innocent life. Period.
