Beware the Tennessee Twosome
Real Clear Politics ^ | 4/30/07 | Peter Brown

If the Tennessee twosome of Al Gore and Fred Thompson keep the political world guessing much longer about their presidential ambitions, they might find themselves crowned as front-runners.

That is an exaggeration of course, but as the former Democratic vice president and one-time Republican U.S. senator turned actor keep considering their White House options, their poll numbers keep rising.

Whether this reflects true love from the voters or the normal human emotion of wanting more choices won't be clear until when and if either man gets into the race.

But the potential of either to shape the races for the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations is clear.

"Thompson, who ran second to Giuliani in a recent Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll of Republicans nationally, remains unknown to two-thirds of voters; although the assumption is that his face recognition would be much, much higher and probably add to his popularity."

They say Fred's unknown to 2/3's of the voters and yet he's second to Giuliani in that poll. Can you imagine his poll numbers when he announces?! They'll climb faster than a lumberjack speed-climber! LOL! This is good, very good. :)

LOL! I know I'll be known as the wild lady for awhile. May have to get out the gun and shoot into the air a few times when that day comes! I like noise, LOTS of noise, when I'm celebrating!

I’d pay more to see fred debat hillary!

There would not be a second debate as they would not be able to dig down to her poll numbers after that!

LOL! Not to worry, DelphiUser. I live in Alaska, out in the bush, so to speak. You bet, M-80's would be great. And I wouldn't miss voting for nothing! :)

Taken from Tim Shipman's article in the Sunday Telegraph:

On Friday Mr Thompson will address the 45th annual dinner of the Lincoln Club, which is billed as the "largest and most active political club in the United States." The invitation was one that other Republican candidates had tried to secure.

The club includes some of California's richest businessmen - a necessity if you need to raise $20 million quickly in order to compete with Mr Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney. The club found $100,000 for the 2003 campaign to oust California's Democrat governor, Gray Davis, which helped Arnold Schwarzenegger into the post.

Mr Thompson has shown that he recognises the importance of assuming the Reagan mantle. He is on record as saying: "Ronald Reagan believed in something. How much we need that today. He showed what can be done if you have the will to push for tough choices, and the ability to ask the people to accept them." Mr Reagan himself, asked whether his training as an actor had prepared him for the presidency, once replied: "I don't see how any fellow that wasn't an actor could do this job."

Americans need not wait for Mr Thompson to win next year's election to see him in the Oval Office. He plays President Ulysses S Grant in the film, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, which opens next month.

Presidential Debate scenario:

Moderator: “Now Mr. Thompson, you may ask Mr. Gore a question.”

Fred: “Al, if global warming is the result of human activity, why are Mars and even Pluto getting warmer?”

Gore: “Er... well, uh..., b-but, but, but...”
