NEW YORK, New York (1010 WINS) -- Rudy Giuliani ripped into the head of the Democratic Party yesterday for getting personal by suggesting Giuliani's family life poses a "serious problem."
The shot earlier this week by Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean marks the first time Dems have openly targeted Giuliani's messy past.
During a CNN interview, Dean said the GOP presidential front-runner "has a lot of character issues that he has to answer for."
"We've begun to reach out to evangelical Christians, and that's a real problem for him," Dean told CNN. "His personal life is a serious problem for him."
Dean refused to say what he was referring to, although the former mayor's marriage to his third wife, Judith Nathan, in 2003 followed a bitter, public breakup with wife No. 2, Donna Hanover.
Giuliani's team fired back hard yesterday in a Daily News article, calling Dean's verbal grenade a desperate ploy to divert attention away from the Democrats' wavering on Iraq, a theme Giuliani has clearly decided is working for him.
"Last night, the Democratic candidates for President once again made clear they just don't understand the terrorists' war on us," Giuliani communication chief Katie Levinson said, referring to the Democrats' Thursday night debate. "So sadly, it yet again comes as no surprise that the political leader of the Democratic Party - in a desperate effort to once again change the subject - resorted to a personal political attack."
The back-and-forth seemed to underscore growing concern among Democrats about Giuliani, who is the only Republican who beats all top Democrats in key battleground states, a poll showed this week.
It is so about time for a Republican to fire back at these Marxist pigs!! I really think that if some more Republicans started opening up, the Dems would nearly panic! They are so not used to actually having to defend themselves! They only know how to kick dogs that lay still,, not ones that bite back! I just hope Bush stays quiet and doesn’t undercut him!
From Human Events:
Rudy's Strong Pro-Abortion Stance
As these comments from a 1989 conversation with Phil Donahue show, Rudy Giuliani is staunchly in favor of abortion:
"I've said that I'll uphold a woman's right of choice, that I will fund abortion so that a poor woman is not deprived of a right that others can exercise, and that I would oppose going back to a day in which abortions were illegal.
I do that in spite of my own personal reservations. I have a daughter now; if a close relative or a daughter were pregnant, I would give my personal advice, my religious and moral views ...
Donahue: Which would be to continue the pregnancy.
Giuliani: Which would be that I would help her with taking care of the baby. But if the ultimate choice of the woman - my daughter or any other woman - would be that in this particular circumstance [if she had] to have an abortion, I'd support that. I'd give my daughter the money for it."
Worse yet, Giuliani even supports partial birth abortion:
"I'm pro-choice. I'm pro-gay rights,Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. "No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing," he responded." -- CNN.com, "Inside Politics" Dec 2, 1999
It's bad enough that Rudy is so adamantly pro-abortion, but consider what that could mean when it comes time to select Supreme Court Justices. Does the description of Giuliani that you've just read make you think he's going to select an originalist like Clarence Thomas, who would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade -- or does it make you think he would prefer justices like Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy who'd leave Roe v. Wade in place?
Rudy's abortion stance is bad news for conservatives who are pro-life or who are concerned about getting originalist judges on the Supreme Court.
An Anti-Second Amendment Candidate
In the last couple of election cycles, 2nd Amendment issues have moved to the back burner mainly because even Democratic candidates have learned that being tagged with the "gun grabber" label is political poison.
Unfortunately, Rudy Giuliani is a proponent of gun control who supported the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapon Ban.
Do Republicans really want to abandon their strong 2nd Amendment stance by selecting a pro-gun control nominee?
“We’ve begun to reach out to evangelical Christians...”
They’re not reaching back.
Compared to Giuliani or McCain I could live with that.
In 1992, the country established the baseline standard of military service as a qualification for the Presidency. If you are a lying, thieving, raping, philandering, anti-American, dope-smoking-while-not-inhaling, draft-dodging creep, you are qualified to be President. Anything that gets you closer to a military uniform than that makes you overqualified. Rudy got closer to a uniform than the Arkansas rapist.
Any details on Breslin’s military experience?
We’re Howard Deaniacs
We’re rollin’ down the tracks
We’re Howard Deaniacs....
“No real Christian would ever be caught dead voting for the Demonic Democrat party.”
Fully 1/3 of self-proclaimed Evangelical Christians vote Democrat in every election, including having voted for Slick Willy. Go figure.
Orwell lives.
Yet Giuliani's apologists still have the gall to invoke the mythical "11th Commandment".
Victory.
This is a no-brainer for me. Rudy, McCain, Hunter, Thompson, Mitt...anyone of the bunch has my vote against the RAT.
I have to admit, that's pretty darned poignant.
Did you know John Kerry served in Vietnam ?
Vietnam is not an issue for me, other than that we not lose this war like we lost that war. I hope you will join me in voting for the Republican nominee, whoever he is, in the general election. My primary vote will probably go to either Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson.
Whatever.
The old lipstick on a pig ploy.
“Dean & Co. are going to shred this loser, just watch. One thing about the Rats, they know how to play politics.”
Yes on both points.
"The fourth rule (of power tactics) is: Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules."
From: "Rules for Radicals", by Saul D. Alinsky.
“be for anyone you want ... work for them/give them money ... talk about why your person is the best choice ... BUT stop playing Deans game.”
Perhaps you misunderstand Howard Dean’s game. His job is to get a Democrat elected to the Presidency. Personally, I think he fired his salvo at Mayor Giuliani a little early, but he’s a hothead so it’s to be expected. I expect that Howard Dean will back off here in short order. Not because he’s ceding the argument, but because he doesn’t reallllly want to cause Mayor Giuliani problems right now. He’s just answering the mail on Mayor Giuliani’s accusations. This’ll be dropped in a day or two.
Mayor Giuliani is the GOP opponent of choice for the socialists. When two socialists run, socialism wins.
You obviously haven’t been listening to Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson.
You have it reversed.
It’s a shame that the GOP is pushing forth someone like Giuliani, who is a liberal in many ways, but is enough of a Republican to alienate crossover voters. Liberals will already be voting Democrat.
So Rudy alienates conservatives and Reagan Democrats.
How is he going to make up for those lost votes?
