Iran's Revolutionary Guards are making preparations for a massive assault on U.S. naval forces and international shipping in the Persian Gulf, according to a former Iranian intelligence officer who defected to the West in 2001. The plans, which include the use of bottom-tethered mines potentially capable of destroying U.S. aircraft carriers, were designed to counter a U.S. land invasion and to close the Strait of Hormuz. Revolutionary Guards missile units have identified "more than 100 targets, including Saudi oil production and oil export centers," the defector said...

I wonder if Israel would use an event like this as an excuse to throw everything they have (*including the “kitchen sink”) at Iran.

Although it is believable on it’s surface, it is hard to take the word of a guy who defected 6 years ago. I am guess it is official Iranian policy for the region eventually.

I’d say, “Kill the fox before he get’s in the hen house. If we don’t we will lose all the hens, the house, the farm and the land it sets on. Then what?”

Three islands in the Gulf of Hormuz were seized by Iran in 1971: Tunb Kabir, Tunb Saghir, and Abu Musa. These are claimed by the United Arab Emirates, but there have never been any battles to reclaim them.

If Iran even tries to attack a Carrier Group, our response should be so overwhelmingly comprehensive so as to leave no targets remaining for Israel to take out.

Naval Mines are the most efficient naval weapon there is, and the overwhelming majority of the damage to US ships since WWII has been from Mines.
We let our mine-clearing ability really atrophy, are taking steps now to improve it but a lot of the cool stuff won’t be ready for several years.

Iran.....has an irresistible Islamic prophesied death wish, and we may be forced to accommodate them... Naw. If Hillary gets in the White House and the Marxist's continue to control the Congress (which will of course mean that the USA has completely and utterly lost it's friggin' mind by electing both), then we will just TALK to them. We will TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHY they hate us so. We withdraw, apologize for centuries of rape and pillage of their oil and people and pay reparations, and come home never to return. Gas prices will jump to $100 a pint and Hillary will be happy for us to pay that.
