In other news- a full 45% of pistachios come from Not-Iran.
Did Borat write that little stat blast on Iran that you posted?
We must do something now about the Pistachio gap!
Thanks for the link, Cindy. I love pistachios. :)
LOL
I try not to buy any of them. No matter the size of the bag, and no matter the size of a “serving” on the nutritional information, I find that 1 bag = 1 serving. This is not good for my waistline.
Better quality maybe but definitely not better flavor. I used to buy Iranian pistachios by the 5 pound bag back in the 70's and they had a distinctive flavor that I have not seen in the California products.
Of course the Iranian nuts come from very mature trees compared to those from California. That could be a factor.
And thirty years is a long time - could be that the old memory banks have some bad chips.
In any case, I'd still like to have a bag of the old pistachios from Iran just to see if I'm right.
I’ve been carefully watching what I buy. Nothing from China. I’ll do without first. Mexican vegies...You mean those tasteless substitutes look a likes??
I switched to cashews years ago. Never looked back. :)
Is there a subsidy earmark for the pistachio growers in the Surrender To Terrorists (STT replaces WOT) bill President is going to veto? Pelosi needed all the votes she could get to pass it.
Pistachios were my favorite nut until my brother-in-law shipped a 10# bag of Georgia pecans to us last Christmas. Now I’m hooked.
Sorry, Mr. Mullah or allah akbar or kit-kat bar or whatever you call yourself, America won again.
Recently, I was treated to some Easter delights from a Lebanese pastry shop in Montreal. One was shaped like a nest (shredded pastry) with 3 pistachio nuts in the center (to die for!). The other was round, flat and melted in the mouth. It had 2 openings that contained pistachio nuts. Normally, pastries don't interest me but these marvelous sweets have opened up a new world.
