WASHINGTON As congressional Democrats move to force President Bush to veto a war spending bill that would start a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, they are simultaneously pursuing a carefully crafted offensive aimed at another target: Republican lawmakers.
In the charged debate over the war, the strategy aims to achieve Democratic objectives on both policy and political fronts, according to party leaders and aides.
Convinced that Bush will never listen to their calls to bring troops home, senior Democrats have concluded that they must force Republicans to vote again and again in defense of the unpopular war until enough plead with the president to change course.
But Democratic strategists also believe that repeated votes on the war will allow the party to expand its congressional majorities in next year's elections by continuing to link GOP lawmakers with the president and his war policies.
"It bewilders me why these Republicans have tied themselves so closely to this president
. God bless them," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and former head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
"Our goal is to keep giving them votes" on Iraq, said Emanuel, widely considered one of Capitol Hill's savviest political tacticians.
The Democratic withdrawal plan is scheduled for a vote today in the House and Thursday in the Senate. A presidential veto is expected within days.

I aam for people who keep their word and finish what they start.
No body admires quitters. The Dems are quitters.
I have the feeling that this is all going to backfire on the dems. I really don’t think the American people want to be losers and quitters, nor do they want to abandon millions of innocents to a bloodbath in Iraq and hand a “victory” to the terrorists who want to kill us.
Eventually it’s going to look like exactly what it is: the uni-dimensional Democrats endlessly accomplishing nothing, wasting time and resources, and dragging America through the mud in the process.
If they sputter long enough, they’re very open to criticism of having nothing new to offer.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006
Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews
A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia.
The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us,

I can’t help but wonder how Rep. Duncan Hunter’s day is going for him the “day after”.
They are not only admired, they are revered at DU...that's the voter base of the Liberals now...quitters, entitlements' recievers, and anti-America groupies.
fyi
No, the ratz are not quitters.
They embarked on a mission to destroy the President and they will not relent until they have accomplished that mission.
If they ruin the country in the process, they don’t care.
If soldiers die, they don’t care.
If Iraqis die, they don’t care.
They will NOT quit until they have destroyed everything in their path.
Republicans, on the other hand, quit at the drop of a hat.
See #7.....it is ALL ABOUT POWER!!!!!
Bush is more popular than Congress is.
And yet the Democrats side with...
‘the ratz are not quitters. ...They embarked on a mission to destroy the President....’
I completely agree. They KNOW exactly what they are doing. And, they DO NOT CARE if they destroy America or get innocent Iraqis killed. Most of them have become a despicable lot.
More and more people need to call/ email these sorry excuses for representatives of the American people. Let them know most Americans LOVE our great country and do not want it destroyed because of the hateful, personal agenda the Democrats are pursuing.

Anyone who voted for a rat, any rat, even dogcatcher rat, in the last election, either through ignorance or hated for W, is responsible for this situation.
Those who voted rat are traitors.
Do I “question their patriotism”?
I can’t, they have none.
Hey Rahm you idiot .. if we loss the war .. then who do you think wins????

Savvy? Let’s see, about the only thing going for Bush these days is the Dems on Iraq funding, and Hillary, Reid, etc. look deathly afraid of a veto,...they fear the repeated votes,
So a new plan, Rahm says it was the Dems’ plan all along!
Savvy? Little League.
