Senate votes to require Iraq withdrawals

WASHINGTON - A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war.

The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage of the same bill a day earlier, fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn the president's threatened veto. Neverthe less, the legislation is the first binding challenge on the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.

No Democrats joined the 45 Republicans in voting against it.

Huh? What happened with Lieberman? And I thought the nay vote was 46?

Actually Quisling and his supporters represented a very small proportion of the people of Norway.

Pierre Reid and company are closer to the French 1940 Cabinet — except that the French at least had the excuse that the Germans kicked their butts on the battlefield.

Plus I like the image of Reid as a surrender monkey.

Actually Lieberman is a Democrat even if he’s claiming to be an independent again. Democrats got control of the Senate because of his turn of coat.

And now we know why Al-Quaeda didn’t blow the Capitol up on 9/11.

Capitol Hill will help the terrorists.

Senator Lieberman is the only example I can think of a Democrat that I would have voted for over a Republican (had I lived in CN). I was glad Lieberman beat Weicker.

“Going to”?? :*(

This political game of ‘chicken’ between the Dems in Congress and the President is going to have very deadly consequences for our brave troops—and every drop of our military’s blood spilled by this postponement of funds will be on the Dems’ hands. >:-(

Smith and Hagel vote for unconstitutional bullshit. HAgel especially should be ashamed of himself. What a disgrace.

***

The last election Mr. Lieberman ran as an independent because the Dems had hand picked someone else as their candidate. So I assume because of that, Lieberman is officially considered an Independent.
