This is a good sign. I’ve been hesitant to jump on the Fred bandwagon, but some how this news seems really positive.
To: areafiftyone
I wonder if this means he’s less likely to run. I really hope he does run.

Does this seem consistent with him running? There have been claims that the reason he would not immediately announce was because of pre-existent contractual obligations and problems with the equal time requirements.
This seems like another obstacle to a quick announcement.

This must be what Brit Hume was talking about last night on his show. They were wondering if this means Fred won’t run.

Hmmm . . . story posted by one of the leading Rudyphiles around here. I bet you guys are hoping this means FDT won’t run, since he would be Rudy’s worst nightmare.

I like Fred's fill ins for Paul Harvey. Honestly, though, I think Paul's son should take over when Paul finally retires (if he ever does.)
I'm a big fan of "The Rest of the Story."

As I recall, this is exactly what Renaldus Magnus did, albeit for a longer period of time before he ran.

This will not fall under the equal time rule if:
“Stations who gave time to candidates on regularly scheduled newscasts, news interviews shows, documentaries (assuming the candidate wasnt the primary focus of the documentary), or on-the-spot news events would not have to offer equal time to other candidates for that office.
This is a completely shrewd move, and will not be an obstacle to his announcing, IMO. I think this is part of Fred wanting to revolutionize campaign. The fact that he IS popular for this kind of thing can only be a great sign.

You do realize that if Fred Thompson had signed a deal with ABC that would preclude him from running for president it would be a major news story and if Fox had exclusive info it would be their top story, right?
Let's not spread unsubstantiated rumors about a potential conservative candidate when it's obvious that what happened is either being misreported or the story means nothing.Confirmation.

“There is a clear demand to hear from Senator Thompson. It’s obvious that listeners, if not America, seek his leadership on issues that matter. Radio has already provided an excellent platform to inform and educate listeners seeking his opinion—the ‘Fred Thompson Report’ is another extension to deliver his respected opinion,” said John McConnell, SVP/Programming, ABC Radio Networks. Someone said last night this is an open-ended contract. Does anyone have a link to that news?

So after at least eight months of posting literally hundreds of threads supporting, promoting and defending the gun grabbing, abortionist liberal Rudy Giuliani on conservative Free Republic, now you've decided to make a splash for Fred Thompson.
I ask you why and you ignore my question.
You're no better then Rudy.... flip-flopping double talking liberal! I noticed you didn't get on that anti-Rudy thread that JimRob put up, with over 8000 posts and over 170,000 hits. Wonder why. LMBO

Isn’t this a bit odd?
Would his time on ABC be view as campaign contributions?
To: areafiftyone
There is a lot he would have to do before he runs. One Law and Order will have to agree not to show any of his episodes during the campaign at all...not even repeats. Two, this radio show will need to be over before he announces because it would be another unfair advantage. This radio show makes me wonder if he will run now. I thought for sure he was going to but he just made it more complicated. I hope if he runs that he is careful with what he says over the radio so the liberals don’t have any ammo. In todays world, it is dangerous to speak freely over the radio hours at a time.
To: areafiftyone
Wow. It is interesting, for sure, that Fred could get this kind of free campaign ad deal from an MSM giant like ABC. I am pretty sure the deal is off once Fred officially declares. He may just wait a little while so he can take advantage of this coup.
To: areafiftyone
I’d love to see his contract... I bet there’s an “out” clause should he announce for political office.

He would be a rare non-spin commentator, a breath of fresh air in the MSM, IF he is allowed to write his own script, and not used.
