Members of the men's Duke lacrosse team: I am sorry. Surely by now you know I am sorry. I am writing these words now, and in this form, as a bookend to 13 months of Duke lacrosse coverage, my role in which started with a March 27 column that began:
"Members of the men's Duke lacrosse team: You know. We know you know."
That was when Durham police and District Attorney Mike Nifong were describing a "wall of silence" among the men who attended the now-vaunted lacrosse party at 610 Buchanan Blvd. Nifong, now described by the state attorney general as a "rogue prosecutor," was widely respected as solid, even understated.
Though wrong, my initial column was cheered by hundreds of readers.
Last weekend, our public editor, Ted Vaden, laid me low for that first column, and the second, which called for the firing of lacrosse coach Mike Pressler. According to Don Yeager, a former Sports Illustrated staffer who is writing a book about the case, Pressler blames me for his dismissal. I'm sorry he ended up coaching at a Division III school.

FYI
At least the author makes an attempt for what it’s worth.
Anything from the 88 professors ?
Latest ?
“I would have written sooner, but for my husband’s quadruple bypass surgery.”
“Pity me, for I have some personal problems that are completely irrelevant to the matter at hand”
Doesn’t call for the firing of the 88 professors who assumed the guilt of the players. I haven’t read all 14 columns (nor do I wish to), but I will bet she assumed the guilt, also.
No sympathy. No forgiveness.
If it were a conservsative, they’d be calling for his head, and dialing for an islamic terror squad to do the deed.
Let them be treated the way they want conservatives to be treated.
I hate these people.
Just last weekend?! He should have "laid" her "low" for those colums immediately after she wrote them because she didn't have all the facts and jumped to conclusions with forced people out of a job and nearly forced innocent men into jail.
“I’m sorry he ended up coaching at a Division III school.”
Then you should compensate him for his loss of income, you sorry excuse for a journalist.
I’d be willing to forgive if she really has learned that in America, one is innocent until proven guilty.
But I doubt it. As Rush says, in the MSM its not the facts that matter, it’s good intentions.
Ok, that was the right thing to say and do. Now, let’s all call for Nancy Grace to step up to the mike. As far as I know, that shameful, dis-GRACE-full-o-crap has yet to apologize for her part in finding these young men guilty without evidence nor a trial. What a despicable human being she is.

The Gang of 88 is silent.
They’re brilliant professors....at an elite university.... don’t cha know. Who are YOU to question their judgement?(sarcasm)
Okay. Pay restitution to those you’ve harmed.
Weak effort and I sure have no sympathy for her.
And NO silly column by a silly journalist will change that.

Duke Profs Receive Racist E-Mail After Lacrosse Case
Duke Lacrosse Rape Case

Durham Duke University police are investigating death threats against professors who questioned racial attitudes on campus a year ago, shortly after a black woman accused three white Duke lacrosse players of sexually assaulting her.
The so-called “Group of 88” professors endorsed an advertisement in The Duke Chronicle newspaper that quoted students who talked candidly about racism on campus. Some readers said the faculty members were convicting the lacrosse players before they had been tried.
(snip)
The professors denied theywere prejudging the players, but the ad was enough to spark violent, racist attacks against them in some Internet blogs.
The attacks have continued even as the case against the players has ended, said the professors, who didn’t want to be identified for fear of instigating more threats. They said they receive about a half dozen threatening e-mails a day from unidentified senders.
“The white race is watching. I hope to see you hanging from a tree,” reads one e-mail.
The professors said they also have received bizarre packages in the mail that they think were prompted by their endorsement of the newspaper ad.
Still, they said they don’t regret endorsing the ad.
I'm on your side Sarge.
The non apology , apology
I would have written sooner, but for my husbands quadruple bypass surgery.
