The Food and Drug Administration has opened a criminal investigation in the widening pet food contamination scandal, officials said yesterday, as it was confirmed that tainted pork might have made its way onto human dinner plates in California.

You may well be right.
Check the labels folks, see where your food comes from!
Get a pill and show me valid statistics, not some whining.
You’re pulling numbers out of air.
“I have read figures in the thousands from numerous sources.”
How about the FDA?
So anybody can send something to petconnection’s data base and that’s “official?”
The FDA reports 14 CONFIRMED deaths.
“When pressed to estimate how many cats and dogs nationwide have died from tainted pet food, the FDA has said it will rely on the the Davis-based Veterinary Information Network to help answer that question.”

So, you are quoting a government entity that hasn't got a clue.
The FDA now has 12,000 complaints. Do you expect them to scatter investigators throughout the country and investigate this many complaints in a week, a month, six months?
Way too much hysteria, the-government-is-evil, and call-a-lawyer syndrome being displayed on FR. I’ll take a rational approach to this investigation over some Internet website that has nothing to offer than anecdotes.
The next thing that will probably come out is that it’s Bush’s fault.

The number you cite is the number of animals that died in taste testing at Menu Foods. Information is sketchy but it seems that those deaths were confirmed by Cornell University.
So far, I have seen numbers as high as 39,000 from credible sources. You have to put this in perspective. Even a number as high as 39,000 is not even one tenth of one percent of the sixty million contaminated containers produced and subsequently recalled.
FDA notes on their website that they have received over 10,000 complaints so far.

Q: How many sick or dead cats and dogs have been reported to FDA?
To date, the agency has received over 10,000 complaints. Confirmation that these may be related to the pet food recall takes time and requires follow up by our field staff.
Bump
You mean the same bumblingidiots that allowed this to happen to begin with? Thanks, but NO thanks. I'm sure your daunting agency will get an honorable mention in the upcoming lawsuits. Blackbird.
If one animal dies because of China/USA/Stupid trade policies it’s one too many. How may humans are effected? YOU don’t know. What is your make or break death toll? At what number will this bother you? A million?
Arizona Caroline, please put me on your ping list. I’ve changed pet foods several times in the last weeks and I’ve still got a sick dog. We have country of origin food labeling, but they don’t label ALL the ingredients. Not one of those brands that I looked at that had Chinese melamine wheat gluten said it was from China.
“How may humans are effected? YOU dont know.”
Nor do you. I’ll wait for the full review while you resort to hysteria.
“You mean the same bumblingidiots that allowed this to happen to begin with? Thanks, but NO thanks.”
Fine. Can you then suggest a more reputable agency or organization or will you too resort to URLs of websites that have no REAL AND CREDITABLE information?
Good, you can come help bury my dog!
“Good, you can come help bury my dog!”
An absolutely moronic statement.
Bought two more bags of Eagle Pack. My cat hasn’t been sick once since I switched her to this.
See my #30 and ladysmith’s reply to it, #57.
No. They don't exist in gooberment. There in lies your problem. You for some unknown reason have faith in them and their reports to you. I assume they're lying everytime their lips are seen moving. Blackbird.
Can you put me on your ping list?
