Here is the e-mail letter I just sent the paper:
Your recent publication of an image depicting all those who believe in our inalienable rights as listed in the Second Amendment to be mindless thugs was disgusting. It’s not often that such “commentary” goes SO far beyond the pale.
I’m a law abiding citizen and I own and utilize two handguns and four rifles. I have never gone on a murderous rampage, not even during the Vietnam War when I was in the Navy.
I fail to see the humor or any salient message in that cartoon. Perhaps in a sense of fairness you could alter your masthead so that it reads, “Screw You...!!!” Then you could just list the things you despise about America and get right to kicking average people in the gut straight away.
If you are so proud of your message, why hide it on the opinion pages...???
My university paper (which many rename The Daily Worker) had a cartoon along similar lines. That is, that guns were to blame and not the sick s**t who actually focused horrid thoughts into bloody actions.
That photo makes me feel tingly.
Okay, tell me something that I don’t know.
I was showing what my University published as a cartoon in yesterday’s edition. The university paper is managed by flaming leftists and has one or two token conservatives.
My reply to Oregonian:
It would seem that your 2nd Amendment Cartoon states that due to the irresponsible and illegal actions of some, all should suffer the loss of that Right. Ironic that the 1st Amendment allows you to attack and advocate the elimination of the 2nd Amendment. Fortunately for you, the 1st Amendment is never attacked or its elimination advocated by some when the press acts in a manner that only be describe as reckless and irresponsible. Publishing information that violates security classifications, or, as recently seen in Virginia, publishing the names and addresses of Concealed Carry holders. Perhaps you should publish a list of ALL news reporters in Oregon that DO NOT own a gun. I am sure most would be happy to share that information!

I find Jack Ohman's cartoon justaposing the 2nd Amendment with sub-human Cho Seung-Li a bit offensive (I'm too unsurprisable to be outraged by much anymore). Virginia Tech has a gun-free campus policy, which means that nobody was able to adequately defend themselves from this psycho. Perhaps your butt-head cartoonist should reflect on this fact before wasting any more ink.
Well, that one’s not so bad. I’m sorry the girl on the right forgot her gun.
