snip

Referring to the contamination that has prompted the recall of more than 100 brands of pet food, investigators are trying to determine whether Chinese producers purposely added melamine to their wheat gluten shipments to Menu Foods.

Is there a list somewhere of ALL the recalled/poisoned foods? Is it only Menu or are other companies now involved? I keep seeing these articles, but lately none of them are listing the affected foods.

Natural Balance — made by Diamond Foods added their Venison to the list yesterday. I think I know where I may find a comprehensive list.. if I find it I’ll post it here.

There was another thread on this topic alone (refusing to allow inspections)—and I agree with those who say we should just say, “Ok, but we’re canceling ALL orders until we can inspect the food.”

Still looking for the list. Blue Buffalo made this announcement and there is more I will post next:

Blue Buffalo:

We have taken this action because the rice protein concentrate used for this run was obtained from Wilbur-Ellis, the same company who supplied this ingredient to Natural Balance. Test results received late last evening (4/18) indicated that this rice protein concentrate tested positive for melamine. This is the first and only time our manufacturing partner sourced an ingredient from Wilbur-Ellis, and we had no knowledge that they had imported the ingredients from China.

We have advised the FDA of this finding and will be working closely with them on this issue.

According to the blog where this was posted:

They may have advised the FDA, but the FDA just said they can’t reveal the companies that got the rice protein.

Isn’t it just f#$king wonderful that we gave the Chicoms Most Favored Nation status?

Every nation in the WTO has to grant MFN to all the others. China joined the WTO in 2001.

and this from the sacbee

Pet food toxin used in pig feed By Carrie Peyton Dahlberg - Bee Staff Writer Published 2:34 pm PDT Thursday, April 19, 2007

The chemical linked to cat and dog deaths on two continents has made it into pig feed, federal officials said Thursday, although it wasn't immediately clear whether any pigs that ate the melamine were later eaten by people. Melamine has caused tumors in rats, and shouldn't be used in animal feed, according to regulators and toxicologists.

This just makes me sick. One of my kitties is acting strange, kind of listless and so on—not vomiting or anything. We don’t use any of the foods on the list, but the more I read, the more it seems that this just might be in every cat food. I just don’t know what to feed these kitties.
