"His sister works for a State Department contractor which oversees billions of dollars of aid for Iraq. Previously, she worked in Bangkok. (1) Both of Chos plays are about sexual abuse. (2) Bangkok is a city famous for its sex trade, which caters especially to Muslim businessmen."
Yep, it's the sister...
Sadly, we have people here on FR who are trying to drag the sister and her career into this discussion by implying that her work in Bangkok for the State Dept is a ‘connection to Islam’.
And to think....I worked so hard on my papers in college.
I even toned down my conservativism to please the lefty professors.
Now it appears I should have simply made them afraid of me and then they would have given me a 4.0.
Oh, brother; sometimes people on “our” side are as bad as the ones on “their” side, aren’t they?
Worse because we have a higher standard.
Well, FR did. Not anymore. I was disgusted by the live thread for the convocation the other day.
I didn’t look at. What gets me is the liberal freepers on all the illegal alien threads trying to make a case. That and the Enquirer Tabloid ANS type stuff.
Before anyone rushes to encourage more involuntary commitment, consider that the reason we don't commit as many people now is that it was used inappropriately in the past. Also, note how in the good ol' USSR, etc., it was really interesting how political dissidents were committed "for their own good"...do we really want our gun rights taken away by liberalizing involuntary commitment?
Right. Just your normal Ivy Leaguer, I'd say.
Sun-Kyung Cho, a senior majoring in economics, was an intern last summer with the Economics Section of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok. Cho, pictured in front of the Grand Palace in Bangkok, worked with a labor officer on a wide range of issues, which included visits to factories. The experience was so profound that Cho changed the focus of her senior thesis to a more labor-related topic.

my point exactly.
IMHO, I don't believe the statement that teachers gave him high grades because they were afraid of him. Instead, they probably considered his writings "art" and "original expression" but now are faced with having to justify their grades. If they gave him high grades because of fear, then they have no business being teachers.
Unfortunately the media is none to credible. Just look at all the spin and lies that have been reported.
Her face is happy and bright in that photo. I pray she will be able to find that innocence and joy/serenity again, soon — for given the circumstances it must be very tough for her.
“I think it is awful for the media to place blame on the family without any evidence and to insist that they should have realized he was dangerous”
they have to blame somebody and it hurts them to point their fingers at their friends in the world of higher education.
“Privacy” laws prevented the University from contacting Cho’s parents about the state of his mind, or about his erratic behavior, even though they were the ones footing the bill. Maybe they could have helped him before he lost control - but that point is moot now I suppose.
“IMHO, I don’t believe the statement that teachers gave him high grades because they were afraid of him.”
I disagree.
There is absolutely no way the incoherent drivel he produced was “A” material, especially when it was so nightmarish that fellow students and his english professor refused to be around him.
I think they were physically afraid of him, and I think they were afraid of a lawsuit if they attempted to expell him or give him the grades he deserved.
“If they gave him high grades because of fear, then they have no business being teachers.”
agreed.
Let’s see if anyone calls them on it.
“Unfortunately the media is none to credible. Just look at all the spin and lies that have been reported.”
I’m not sure what lies have been reported, although I agree there has been alot of spin.
Everyone is in CYA mode here, but I trust the parents of the dead to see through the BS. They will get to the heart of the matter.
Duke got the Duke accused rapists out fast. Why was this nutcase allowed to stay?
