I read the following from Little Green Footballs:
"Apparently, South Korean student Seung Hui Cho signed his note, Ismail Ax, and also wrote those words on his arm. All other signs right now point to this being a deranged individual with a history of odd behavior (not a sudden jihadi), but this is very curious."
Hotair.com suggests that he meant only to refer to a story by an author named Ishmael:
You probably already know this, but in James Fennimore Coopers story The Prairie, the settler Ishmael Bush, who is attempting to escape from civilization, sets out across the prairie with two key tools, a gun and an axe. Each has a symbolic meaning. The axe which can either kill or provide shelter stands for both creation and destruction. Given that the VT killer was an English major, might this be the likely meaning of the words on his arm? Just my two cents.
And its widely reported that Cho's writings freaked out one of his English professors. Smoking Gun had one on-line. I read it.
What immidiately stood out was some of the strange language Cho's character used: All of the characters have typically American names, yet "John" uses some strange epithets. The story is basically about a step-son's unexplained rage at a step-father whom he accuses of killing his real father, and (falsely), of molesting him. The father a "fat piece of pork," and "McPork." (The latter is a mockery of his unusual, and unexplained, last name, McBeef.)
It's only weak evidence, I know, but it's just so straaaange...
Northern VA has an incredibly large asian population, including Korean, he would not need to speak english in order to socialize. his lack of friends would be more likely a result of antisocial behavior than lack of a peer group to socialize with.

While there are many Christians among the South Koreans, many, if not most, of the immigrants to this country do so because of an underlying bias against Christianity in South Korea. So the Cho family was probably Christian (I do not know, I am just using this as a basis of formulating a postulate). Young Cho has something of a mental chemical imbalance, manifesting itself in schizophrenic paranoic behavior. The implied accusation of the parents of abuse, both sexual and emotional, may be one indication of this.
Young Cho, already suffering a chemical imbalance, begins to see Satanic symbolism in his Christian upbringing, and in an effort to reconcile his beliefs with troubling images, turns sideways to another similar-appearing religion to somehow bridge these inconsistencies he sees.
Islam seems to condone the expression of taking the lives of the "unbelievers", and when one is sufficiently paranoic, that term can include just about anybody that you think has looked at you wrongly. A very strong negative feedback, in which a loner type never seems to get out of his own head, and before you know it, a full-blown psychosis has developed. The voices are saying, make them pay, they never believed, they only deserve to die. One day, these voices flash into action, and the sunset never comes.
This report came out before they knew who the shooter was. Law enforcement was speculating...even here in Texas that’s what was being said by the same types...
I just read the play. What is with the beating of shoes?
Randall "Ismail" Royer was arrested for possesion of an AK-47.
The more I research Ismail Royer, the more I find he's a bad bad guy. Here's a FR post on him:
Portrait of a Wahhabi: My encounters with Randall Royer and the usual suspects.
Lot of stuff happening in Virginia according to that post.
If Cho was affiliated with local jihadists, he may have idolized Royer.
Oh come on.
Are we next going to be told that he was seen facing Mecca on several occasions?
If the shooter was on his computer all the time, his computer should be full of his favored web sites and all kinds of telling evidence.
If the authorities suppress all this info, all they will do is start up crazed conspiracy theories.
A manchurian candidate?
Wasn’t that NK too?
some think that is a subtle ref, to insulting. Who knows?
This guy may have been inspired by the koran without praying 5 times a day to mecca.
But notice how everyone forgets the DC sniper, the utah mall shooting and NC state suv incident.
you betcha
Ishmail= Jewish
Ismail= Islamic
Either way, I think like many psychos he merged things in his mind and gave them a higher iconic value to fit his rage and derangement. It sounds as though the character and symbolism may have been the meaning, but it also could have fit nicely alluding to the (more violent islamists). I think the character's name and the ax are more likely though. I notice he vied for the axe to kill rather then to use as shelter.
Uh...yes, it’s weak evidence. Paranoid schizophrenia with a possible meth addiction covers the bases far better.
kinda like the conspiracy theory between nifong, the cops and the DNA examiner.
Nope , could not happen.
Then there is the little red truck injuring the gov.
McBeef - besides being a parody of MacBeth (allusion to which is rife with its own symbolism) also seems to allude to sort of a “Supersized” image of the US or its culture. IMHO .....
He'd never before fired a gun, but he shot 8 rounds, got 8 hits, 5 of them headshots, with 3 kills.
He was a video-game fanatic.
Wonder if that's the case here.
Dr. Ismail Ak rather than Ismail Ax. Interesting take. Thanks for posting that... bump.
