Tech killer was 'obsessed' with girl who had new boyfriend (New info)
Timed of London ^ | 4/17/2007

Her smile shines out of the pictures posted on the Facebook website under the title of “Why Emily Hilscher was cooler than me”.

The girl who is believed to have obsessed the Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui - and may have been his first victim - had a lot of friends. More than 200 had posted tributes on the website today.

Ella Miller, an old class mate, wrote: “I remember her untieing my shoes with a fork, when we played in the woods around her house in the club house, going to the beach with her and her family. Spending the night at her house and staying up late playing cards, her teaching me how to play the saxaphone, summer crab feasts, swimming in the river, jumping on trampolines in the rain, backstreet boys concert, her putting worms on her nose lol...and it wasn’t just her personality - she was gorgeous!!”

Photographs on the same website show a pretty young woman, preparing for a toga party, going on an 8th grade field trip, and arriving at her high school prom. Described as a straight “A” student, Ms Hilscher, 18, spent most of her free time horse riding and hoped to become a vet.

”I’m interested in pretty much everything,” she wrote on her MySpace page, in which she refers to herself as “The Pixie”.

She added: “My friends are what keeps me smiling. I’m into snowboard, riding and music. Give me something I can bang my head to or dance like crazy, and I’m all over it.”

Ms Hilscher had met a new boyfriend, about whom she gushed about on her page. “I live, love and get booted but eventually that will change...I now have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that.” College friends said her new boyfriend had just dropped her off before the massacre.

Ms Hilscher, a first year student who was studying animal and poultry sciences and equine science, was the next-door neighbour of Ryan Clark, a residential adviser at the dormitory where the shooting started.

It is believed that a morning argument in the dormitory at the Virginia Tech campus led Cho to kill the teenager and Mr Clark who had attempted to come to her aid.

Her grandmother, Merle Hilscher, 71, described the tight bond Emily had with big sister Erica, 21, who attended a nearby university. “They were very close all their lives,” she said.

“Now one of them is ended, but we have to carry on.”

On her Facebook tribute page today, Cody Yager wrote: “Emily was one of my first friends here at [Virginia] Tech. How could such a beautiful soul be removed from our lives?”

Will Sonnett from Rappahannock County High School in rural Virginia, said: “Emily Hilscher was cooler than me because she could make friends with a glance and a smile. She never hesitated to make someone, anyone feel at home with kindness and an open mind. Thanks for being awesome to lame little 8th graders, and for making stupid computer classes unforgettable.”

Ryan Clark IS the new boyfriend!

I don't think so - the article and other reports say her boyfriend just dropped her off before the shooting and Ryan was her next door neighbor. Why would they say her next door neighbor just dropped her off? The report presents Ryan Clark as a resident adviser.

Yea, as the evening goes on I don’t know how reliable that Clark claim is. Not sure why the UK paper drew that conclusion if no evidence exists. We’ll learn more as time goes on.

You are so correct. All she had to do was glance at him; say hi in passing; and, in his ego-centric disturbed mind, they were in 'a relationship.'

Stalkers are experts at manipulation...they are so centered upon thier fantasy world that they (to the police) can make the 'stalkee' look like the 'crazy one' which adds to the torment that the victim goes thru.

This whole situation is beyond horrific.

Um, as a love triangle, the pics tell the story. Perhaps some things are best left unsaid....

Still, I'd like to know what was in the note the killer left behind.

It is so painful to read these posts. Trully.

There has been no identification of Cho as being even someone acquanted with Emily. There are no 'dots' conntected making him (Cho) the jilted lover (other than his own narcistic fantasy world). Friends of Emily's were interviewed today (on Fox and CNN) none of these girls, when directly asked said that Emily dated, or even knew, her killer. Cho may have built up his own world with her in his dilusional mind, and just seeing her with/talking to, another man would/could have 'set him off.' Stalkers are ego-centric in that they think the object of the thier obcession should be as obcessed with them in a reciprocal fashion.

From your posts I hazard to guess that you are judging this young woman by her MySpace page/posts. That is a pity. Kids today have a world wide forum for the bravado that used to just be discussed in HS cafeterias...they are all so much more than the garbage that is posted.

It’s a national disaster. Only second to Mountain Meadows.

It would have to be at most third - the 1927 school bombing in Bath, Michigan killed 44 people (38 children) - and if there are any "guns are the cause of all our problems" people out there - this was done without any guns.

The UK paper did not draw that conclusion - you did.

Oh? What about suicide bombers? This guy didn’t have a bomb so he couldn’t blow himself up, but he had two guns, so he shot himself. What’s the difference? The bullet was his ticket to Paradise.

Funniest thing! Everyone at the college says that he stayed by himself, and that no one knew him, or anything about him. So how could anyone possibly know he had a crush on, or an obsession with, the Miller girl?

The brother wasn’t clear about that, I think mostly it was due to the press being relentless and he is devestated and doesn’t want a lot of interviews... the brother said the family isn’t happy the school put his brother with this guy because the school knew his history of setting fires, etc., and they were told none of that.

You are so right.

A few years ago in Philadelphia, there was a woman who was killed after getting off a bus early in the morning on her way to work at a local hospital. The killer just walked up behind her and shot her. The murder was captured on a bank surveillance video camera. The police were stumped for a long time.

It turns out she was stalked (without her knowing it) and then killed simply because she happened to notice him one day at work. They had no relationship, but she happened to look at him one day and he concocted an elaborate paranoid fantasy that she was evil and had to be killed. The police eventually connected him to several other homicides, all with the same motive, and he was convicted and put away for life.

Post 311 still doesn’t provide more evidence that he was a Muslim convert. Has there been more news about “Ismail”? That is currently his strongest link to Islam.

Silly?

How do you figure that?

Maybe it's because I think that you are beneath contempt for engaging in this type of idiotic speculation.

BTW - How's your investigation going?
