Va. Tech Gunman Named

By Michael Shear and Debbi Wilgoren Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, April 17, 2007; 9:36 AM

Virginia Tech officials today identified the Virginia Tech student who killed 32 people and then himself on the Blacksburg campus yesterday as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui of Centreville.

Cho was a South Korean native who had immigrated to this country, the university announced on its Web site this morning. He was a senior majoring in English, and lived in a dorm on campus, officials said.

The guy could just as easily have been a crazy Australian or Pole.

Irrationality isn't the sole property of South Koreans.

See comment 5 (if you haven't already).

Have the demorats called for a pull out yet?

I mean, have the rats come up with a time line on when we are going to pull out of Virginia?

Plus, using the term “newbie” as an insult is pretty stupid. Criticize him for his comment—or in this case, spelling—not because of how new he is.

Secondly, a college campus is like a small city. You can't just "shut it down". Many of the students don't even have cars to leave the campus. The ensuing panic would allow the gunman to escape anyway.

Well I don't like the blame game either. But one thing no one has noticed. After 9/11, we spent billions on something called Homeland Security. Every state and city was allocated millions of dollars. Liasons with city governments, schools, hospitals etcetcetc were appointed. These entities were to use these funds to plan and PRACTICE for terrorism and ANY kind of disastor or major event.

From what I have observed with the situation here, there were no plans or practices for any event. Officials seemed completely shocked, unable to think or react, and directionless. Not even a camera on dorms? This makes me wonder where the money went and whether Homeland Security ever reached Virginia.

Sort of like did it ever reach Louisiana?

“I think the “receipt in the backback” angle is a little too cute.”

Especially with filed off serial numbers.

Not all of East Asia (especially if you consider East Asia to be both Northeast and Southeast Asia) has that naming convention (at least when the names are romanized). Japanese names go given name and then family name, for a people who are East Asian by most definitions of the term.

What does “diversity” have to do with this? (rhetorical).

Race could have played a part (also wild speculation) in determining who did or didn’t get shot.

Darn I keep forgetting the “\sarc” tag for people
who have absolutely no sense of humor.

Great analysis, even if it’s extrapolated a bit—which was intentional?

You pointed it out once.....
by insulting the guy.

The poster posted a title with typos, and you go about with the "newbie" thing--the "newbie" slips up on his spelling and you insult him, and you accuse Centurion2000 of picking on you?
