I just found out about the massacre at Virginia Tech.
The thing that makes me most angry is that the dead students were penned up like sheep for the slaughter, in a ridiculous "gun-free zone." A better phrase would be "self-defense-free zone," or maybe "danger-free zone for armed criminals."

I think that idiocy should be pointed out at any time. Hence, I wrote a brief e-mail to that dolt, first expressing my condolences, of course. Then I noted that he and his university successfully fought the corrective legislation in the Virginia Assembly committee and he was thankful that it was stopped.
And I closed with "Perhaps more "Gun-Free Zone" signs may be helpful."
The way you worded it made me respond the way I did.
No disrespect intended.
Sounds like reality of today to mee

How do you feel about 18 year-olds making a choice to enlist in the military? If their old enough to go protect your life and liberties, don't you think their old enough to protect their own?
You are absolutely correct! Its high time we stop expecting young adults to act like irresponsible children. We all need to buck up and be responsible for our own safety.
We see a lot of pictures today of police running around the Virginia Tech campus, waving guns. But exactly how many lives did they save by their actions today? The answer: ZERO.

Well let’s tone down that hyperbole and just state things as they are. Gun control is responsible for making V. Tech a place where mass murder on a huge scale is very easy to accomplish. There’s a fact.
Ridiculous. One person with a gun could have stopped him no matter what his mindset.
Is that what you really feel like would happen?
Not in this particular case.
How about 300. Most people that are non-felons who are legal to purchase a firearm don't buy one. Of those that do own guns many do not acquire concealed weapon permits (perps never do either). The fact is there was no minimal layer of protection apparent and in these days of heightened terrorism threats, no viable plan enacted after the initial double homicide and due to the "gun-free" status of the campus, no LEGAL way for students to protect themselves. And needless to say if a student had ignored all the rules, had a gun on their person and stopped the killing the Dems would have demanded the hero be charged with violating the gun-free school zone.
I won't be surprised if we learn that the perp was actually aced by a student.
You don’t know that. That’s just a maybe. A big maybe. There is nothing about a suicidal shooter that makes him invulnerable to a bullet. If that were true then our troops could never kill a jihadi. The Irealis could never kill a jihadi. You’re just spouting nonsense like some little kid.
The probability is low that a person in the vicinity of that building would have had a gun. Even if a person right there had had a gun they would probably have been taken out by the time they went for their gun in their pants or whatever, loaded, cocked and delivered a round. It happened too fast.
So while possible it’s not likely. I am against gun control. But I am for logic and common sense. I was responding to the statement in the article that said this was caused by gun control. I believe it is likely this incident would have happened with or without gun control - that’s all. So save your barbs for someone else.
It’s better to BE safe than to FEEL safe.
Already explained this several times. Yes it is possible but not likely someone could have taken him out. First a person in the immediate vicinity had to have a gun. The probability of that is low - with or without gun control. then that person would have had to get that gun out of their pants, holster, load it, aim it and deliver a round before being shot. That is also not likely.
So the article’s statement that “gun control sealed their doom” is not true based on likely outcomes. While it is always be better for citizens to be able to defend themselves in this case gun control did not make any difference. It happened too fast too early in the morning.
And I resent people butchering logic to make a point - which I agree with by the way.
