How do you know any police tried to open the doors? Where did this information come from?

Um... the news and stuff. There's a lot of it going around.

From a local TV station.

9:45 am
Virginia Tech police receive a 911 call about a shooting at Norris Hall Norris Hall includes faculty offices, classrooms, labs Virginia Tech and Blacksburg Police respond immediately Officers arrive and find front door barricaded by chains from the inside Within one minute police break through doors and hear gun shots Gunshot sounds lead them to the second floor Gunshot sounds end and police find gunman had taken his own life.

Your timeline of "5 hours" is flat out wrong.

Judging from the media coverage this morning, I guess we can assume the press is running the girl friend to ground, huh?

How many police approached this guy in the five hours between 7:15 and around 12:20 or 12:30 when he killed himself? Zero. Ziltch. Zip. Notta.

Ouch.

See post #4535.

The suspect was the boyfriend of the roommate that was killed.

OK, the “ground off serial number” story was from the gun shop guy who posted that he sold the weapon and was interviewed by ATF. Since the rest of his story checked out, I give the remainder of his story higher credibility, although I am still going to wait for official confirmation.

But given they had the receipt, it wouldn’t have mattered if the numbers were wiped, the receipt would lead them to the gun shop and others have said that the numbers can still be read if filed off.

I’m getting real tired of dozens or hundreds of LEO standing outside while shots are being fired inside.

Denver Post Office, Navistar Plant in Illinois, Columbine, the Texas McDonald’s.

An exception is the off duty cop at the Utah Mall. He charged right in ahead of the uniformed cops. Fired rounds. Saved many lives. A true hero.

“How would they be able to track the 9mm Glock purchase down to a gun shop in Roanoke, and interview the owner by early evening (6-8 hours afterward), if he’d filed the numbers off?”

Many firearms have “secret” SN’s due to anti-gunners demanding design changes. The design demands usually include a magazine disconnect, loaded chamber indicator, secondary SN, locking device.

Or, the earlier report of obliterated SN was wrong, which is the most likely.

Last night Greta, while standing the in the press room, said something to the effect of, “well, it’s nice for them (university spokes people)to finally acknowledge we’re all (press) here”. Made me sick.

Someone asked how the cops knew the doors were chained? I DIDN’T SAY ANYONE SAID they tried the doors, but that is a LOGICAL assumption! How else would they know the doors were chained? Someone had to have tried the dorrs or they may have been told by a student that the doors were chained. It really makes no difference, but I see you have concluded that all the cops are incompetent or cowards, and I reject that.

I’m getting real tired of dozens or hundreds of LEO standing outside while shots are being fired inside.

For some reason, this is being accepted as what actually happened. I don't think anyone has established that hundreds of LEOs stood around outside while shots were fired. The media hasn't even suggested it yet (which should tell you something).

I wonder who got there first, the press or the parents of the dead students.

My money is on the bloodsucking press.

They act like they have a legitimate part of every investigation — like they should be given special status, maybe let in to see the police’s notes.

I’m sick right along with you.

If the shooting at West AJ was around 7:15, assuming Cho left the building immediately, he could’ve been at Norris by 8:00 easily. It’s a long walk (other side of campus across the Drillfield) but no more than a half-mile. Or he could’ve been wandering campus. For all we know, he went to freaking Starbucks and had a latte or something. All we know is that sometime after 9:00, he went to Norris, chained a couple of doors shut (I still think inside fire or stairwell doors—outside doors would’ve been way too obvious), and started shooting.

This was not Columbine, the cops did not sit outside for hours. It sounds like Cho offed himself as soon as, or just before, the police broke through his chains. But I’m still stunned at the death toll he caused with just two handguns, and one of them low-powered (a .22). I’m no expert on guns, but it certainly seems like he was an extremely good shot, or else he had a LOT of ammunition and magazines pre-loaded, and was just spraying.

Eh, maybe he had a storage facility off-campus and kept his weapons and ammo there until yesterday.

Another exception from Columbus, Ohio, recall at the time they indicated they had made a decision-as best they could-to try to save people in these situations.

And this guy was an English major, likely or at least possibly a writer. Were there indications in his writings of his pathos? What about journals he kept?

Why go to one of the major Engineering lecture halls?

There is a long history of these massacres where the LEO never fire a single shot.

Granted, we do need more information and after the presser this morning, it looks like we can keep waiting.

me to. They stand outside with their guns drawn and appear to be afraid to enter the building. That is what I saw from that cell phone video. Now I admit I don’t know the full story, nor if they were able to get into the building, or if other cops were already in the building. But if the cops took their time trying to get into a building where clearly people were being shot one after the other I have a problem.

I think we all want the cops to be heros, but many times that just isn’t the case. So far the only hero I have heard about in all of this was that holocaust survivor professor who held the door shut while the students were jumping out the windows. He died going down trying to save others. That is a hero to me.

But I only will point the finger at the killer at this point and until the investigation is complete and the questions answered will I really give my opinion on the cops and what they did or didn’t do.
