This country has become the worst example of knee-jerk reactions ever

Because the media/press is more interested in making a story then acutally reporting what happened

You said in part: What is really starting to make me mad, is how, 24 hours after the event, the name of the shooter hasn’t been released as yet.
***

Why is this information so important to get out in 24 hours? Is it a safety issue? Sure, the public has a right to know, but is there any possibility that there might be an investgative reason to hold on to the name for now? Maybe the police want to talk with the family/friends of the shooter before they can prepare for the questions. I am curious about the names of the shooter(s) and the victims, as well as the stories of heroism that are starting to trickle out already. But why the rush?

SPECULATION ALERT: If the one story is to be believed, he was looking for his ex-girlfriend, and knew what floor her class was but not which class.

Wasn't his ex girlfriend killed in the dorm, along with the RA?

Unreal.

I don’t know that much about guns, can you shoot yourself in the back of the head (is it physically possible is what I mean)? I know people put guns in their mouth or under their chin to kill themselves, but I’ve never heard of somebody shooting themselves in the back of the head?

Sure, it COULD have been pre-meditated, but I don’t think it is unbelievable that he was just a nut who wanted to get his ex-girlfriend.

Do you take 100 rounds or more to take out your girlfriend? Hell, if she's your girlfriend, you know her class schedule and which room she'd be in.

No, he went there to kill as many people as possible, and not one witness said that he said or asked a thing.

And what's the deal with the headline on FNC: "Source: Trouble Running the Prints"? What does that mean? Not in the system? Can't get a usable set? Should be in the system, but ain't?

And the guy had no ID on him, but just happened to have a card from the shop where he purchased those guns? Okaaaay....

Do people entering on student visas have their prints taken, BTW? Just curious.

God bless and reward Professor Lebrescu, who “rescued” so many at the cost of his own life.

God bless the families of all the victims.

Jeepers, I wish they would stop referring to the "gun man" or "the shooter".

Call him the " mass murderer","The killer"!

And were the serial numbers filed off when he bought the guns? If so, are those legal to sell? If not and the guns still had the numbers intact, why would he file off the numbers?

I think if you hit shot someone while he was wearing a vest it would still be enough to injure them so they would stop long enough to be held down or shot again. Just confronting these madmen may be enough to stop them.

I have been thinking since yesterday that these school shootings are cropping up more and more often as we as a nation move further away from God. There once was a time that a fear of retribution from God would give these people a second thought before going on a rampage. Now, more and more people have lost the fear of God. Our society is drifting towards chaos because we have lost our anchor.

I also imagine there were already complaints from students about missing so much class from the previous week when they kept locking things down and evacuating because of all the bomb threats.

It’s like the snow days. If you cancel and it doesn’t snow, people scream. If you don’t cancel and then driving is treacherous, people scream. And even if you get it right, people 2nd-guess if there is an accident, like if a bus has a normal accident on a day it snowed but not that bad, people say that if you cancelled school for the snow the accident wouldn’t happen. And if a kid off of school on a rainy day that looked like ice at first is hit by a car in the street, people say the kid should have been at school.

What is interesting is to look at the comments made on the internet between the 7:15AM shooting and the announcement of the 2nd shooting. The most interesting is that when we first got reports of a professor who told their kids to jump out the window, some on this thread reacted quite negatively to that, as it the professor was to blame for the kids getting hurt in the fall. Then we learned about the shooting, and he was a hero.

WP is saying he is a legal immigrant of Korean decent - his parents live in Fairfax County (Northern VA)

I’ve been wondering what VT people thought of Steger. He came across as unfeeling and arrogant to me, although not incompetent, at least before the cameras. That VP of university relations, Larry?, struck me as being out of his pay grade. What did Steger teach before he became president?

A range of sources, including federal and local officials with knowledge of the case, have told the Washington Post that the assailant was of Korean descent. His parents live in Fairfax County, one official there said.

Then who entered on a student visa, I wonder? Some poor guy with the same name? That's quite a screw up.

Thanks for the update, keep us posted.

I’ll run a digital copy of the presser on my PC if the networks actually run it.

Any chance they will ID the perp?

It will be shocking if they don’t!
