Maybe you (and all the other posters) should stop acting as if an age group is the very same as a racial or religious group (funny how we can spout how bad Moslems are, but not college kids).

I'm about as pro-gun as one can get, but you bring up some good points. Packing heat at 21 isn't good for everyone. Looking back, I was far too immature at 21, and I joined the service at 17. I have a CHL now and many years of "wisdom" to temper my judgement...... Being able to conceal carry just because your 21 isn't correct for all......

I saw a guy in custody on all fours and alive. If that wasn’t the shooter who was it? And, he looked somewhat asian but only somewhat. I wonder if he scuffled w/le while in custody? He certainly was alive at the time of arrest if that was him. The truth will only come out by bloggers who were there imo.

If I understood correctly, that guy was a reporter for one of VT's collegiate media outlets, college newspaper IIRC. The cops may have just wanted him out of the area.

At the very least, this guy had a lot of hardware lying around. I mean, how many college students have a bullet proof vest in the closet?

"I saw a guy in custody on all fours and alive."

I saw somewhere that he was a reporter for the campus newspaper.

Does the “name withheld until next-of-kin are notified” rule apply in the case of murderers? If so, and if this guy is a foreign student from somewhere in Asia, that might explain the delay in giving out his identity.

“Copycat of the Amish massacre?”

I’m watching FOX. Did you just hear the interview with a student who said she has talked with her female friend who was present when the gunman was shooting. She wasn’t hit, but fell down and feigned death.

Sheer speculation alert: If this was a couple of the lecture auditorium classrooms, they have steps down and the seats and tables are attached to the floor. If you come in from the back and start shooting, it would be extremely hard for anybody to get out of a chair, get to the end of the row of solid desk material, and run up the stair steps to knock you down. Think of a theater.

And if he did in some rooms tell the kids to line up at the FAR wall, and then started shooting at them, they might be too far away (20-30 feet) to be able to rush the distance and get him, especially if when he emptied the clip he stepped out into the hall.

Now, if that is the case someone could be on the other side of the door and get him, but who is going to do that? If you made it to the hall you are going to be running away, not running to where the gunshots are.

ALL SPECULATION. I’m waiting for the real news.

Hmm. Tech is a big school (25,000+ students) but if the guy was an engineering student, you’d think maybe at least one survivor in one of those classes would be able to give the authorities an idea on who the guy was. Depends on what the classes were, I guess. Or, good grief, if the first victim was the guy’s girlfriend? Her roommate or hallmates don’t know who the guy is? It’s a dorm, everybody knows everything about everybody.

Doctors now treating 10-11 more gunshot cases according to the local NBC feed room station (in addition to the 32 dead)

Could be the worst incident on a college campus in history, record was formerly 38 dead in Michigan

Girlfriend is the cover story and may be part of but not the whole story. Media said “feds are there but only to help out because is a state matter, not a federal matter”. Yeah, right.

Hijackings were very real, especially by Islamics, were they any other kinds? When I traveled the world we were always aware of the possibilities. Iran was one of my major places of business. The fact that terrorist slamming planes into building had not happened doesn’t mean anything.

You obviously don’t have much knowledge of the real danger posed by a one inch knife, cut yes, kill, not likely ... providing you are fighting not sitting on your hands. The man armed with a brief case has the better end than the man with the one inch knife. Planes are very crowded spaces. Executive protection agencies all tell you to access the danger, access the odds, and if cornered act.

While the outcome may not be you survive, see flight 93, the odds are you are doing the right thing fighting back and not submitting to hijackers. Or for that matter, to the man with a gun trying to kill as many people as possible. It sounds as if some VT students had the presence of mind to do just that, defend, blocking and barricading doors.

No I am not a hero, I am a realist who traveled the world where terror was real, way before terror was common in the American language. No one knows how they will react to a life threatening situation, but the training on how to defend yourself can save you or others from certain death. That teaching does not start with hide. When you deplaned at Tehran airport, the guards with their AK-47s were there for a reason.

Sounds like he doesn't believe the jilted lover story either.

Brief complete speculation: His girlfriend said she slept with other kids (maybe to “hurt” him), and so he walks to her class, and says “I’m looking for (her name), and anybody who says they know the name he shoots?.

That could be. If the whole girlfriend store is accurate, I think he went to her to say 'goodbye' she figured out what he was up to and tried to stop him or threatened to call the police, he shot her and the RA and then he went about his business on the other side of the campus.
