Bullet proof vest, chains for the doors, two hand guns an lots of ammo...

This isn’t just a random kid upset that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

I was thinking about April being a bad month, too. It seems very strange. I wonder what it is?

I don't know, but what I can say is that students are becoming more and more confrontational and direct in their behavior.

About 3-4 years ago, the college where I am assigned to started holding classroom management sessions because teacher (and students) were complaining of more and more disruptive students in class. Students appear to be more "in your face" to faculty when they don't get the grade they want.

It's been a strange Spring semester. One students was arrested for masturbating and ejaculating all over a monitor, keyboard and mouse - this was during the day in a *public* area of the College. Another student was masturbating in a restroom - and leaving pornographic pictures in the stall after he was done. This student was also caught. n.b. - Both students are again attending the college.

Certainly nothing like the massacre at VaTech, but students are more direct and confrontational, engaging in behaviors that are clearly out of bounds, and don't seem to care about the consequences for their actions.

" I can’t think of anyone on my campus I would feel comfortable with knowing they had a gun."

People with your mindset are ultimately responsible for the deaths that result from leaving so many people defenseless.

"Katie Couric’s arrival makes this an official crisis."

I'm quite surprised that she beat Shep Smith there.

Nice catch. Janaka Nuwan Kumara Siriwardena and his roomie Mohammed Monsoor must surely be persons of interest in this case.

Well, he certainly isn't a muslim. Muslims don't have girlfriends, they have property.

But the fact remains, no ID on the shooter, hours later, after the event, is rather odd.

You're right .. no ID yet is rather odd

You can bet they know who the shooter was

Common Sense is as uncommon virtue.

You seem to have it in spades. Thank you for your sensible comments.

WOW..I didn’t hear that.

THAT is very strange...

I just heard this idiot on ABC radio news saying that he wonders why the school continued to have classes after the first shooting this morning, but, “I don’t expect Pres. Bush to answer that YET”.....blech

Prosecuting people who are caught with guns and pasively give them up when confronted makes no one safer, only a fool would think so.

Regarding responsibility. We have let liberals turn universities into a state funded daycare for spoiled lazy-asses who are simply trying to delay responsibility. If they actually became institutions of higher learning again, the maturity level would rise.

HOWEVER, that being said, plenty of 18-22 year olds are serving with honor in the military. Calling all “young adults” irresponsible drunks is a bit nanny-state. If nothing else, at least half of any concealed carry class is the law, how to legally defend yourself, and how to avoid liability. Rule #1 to avoid liability is to never drink when packing, and to avoid obvious conflict situations. I have personally been much more passive in two situations BECAUSE I was packing, as compared to the butt I would have kicked if there were no guns present. But, I did not pack when I was in my early 20s, maybe when I was 26. Probably the majority of students that would choose to pack would be older than the school’s median age.

That’s the other thing, most irresponsible frat boys will have a self-preservation instinct that tells them to stay away from guns and from gun-toting frat boys. Utah allows packing on campus, hear of any shootings at Utah colleges?

I’m with you. This sure doesn’t look like a lover’s spat gone wrong.

And still no ID on the shooter.

And the President getting ready to speak on the event would suggest terrorism possibly.

If the shooter was known to the campus, I don't see how his ID would not have leaked or been reported by now.

President speaking now.

It was short, no mention of motive by the President. His statement is over.

"This sure doesn’t look like a lover’s spat gone wrong."

It's certainly not the typical scenario; usually it's "just" a murder/suicide, with maybe one other person, e.g., new boyfriend, involved. I've never heard of a lovers' spat leading to anything approaching this.

Appears to be a lot of senseless speculation in this thread...

It's so much more fun than waiting for facts.

It seems odd that having killed his girlfriend in the heat of passion, the perp could come up with a chillingly perfect plan to commit mass murder and acquire the means to do so, all in a two hour period when the campus was ostensibly locked down.

I don't think the statement implied that the shooter caught his ex-girlfriend in bed with another man THIS morning.
