This one looks interesting for later reading. Bump. Might even be worthy of the not-a-ping list, I can’t tell.

Shudda used a subsonic .22 short.
But not on the toll booth collectors. Well, maybe not.

Not that anyone cares about my story. But here goes.
We feed our birds faithfully, and we have many. We also have indoor/outdoor cats. But in spring and summer when the birds are mating and nesting, we do NOT let the cats out because the birds have no chance. But in fall, the cats are out.

This guy claimed he was only shooting feral cats, but I believe he was also caught shooting people’s pet cats, according to an earlier thread.

I took out a feral cat about five years ago after it took a swipe at my dog Wilson and scratched his eye. Plugged the thing with a .22 cal. Taurus revolver out by the woodpile. I could have lived with the thing but after it went after my dog, that was it.
... and Wilson is fine. Old and slow, but fine.

"What really bothers me, this cat was down there killing endangered species of birds and others protected by law" Cats can't read.

I’ve got a cat, my daughter has several next door. We love them, keep them inside, and pamper them. A feral cat on the property, however, is a different matter, and they don’t last long. I get no pleasure from shooting cats, but allowed to multiply they are destructive.

Cats kill/eat birds and mice.
My cat was born in the house, well fed every day since, neutered, etc.
He kills birds and mice for sport, and to show his human masters that he is looking after the yard.
Nothing to do with feral.
In my town, a cat is considered a free roaming animal. But if my cat is on my neighbor’s property, he can capture the cat, to protect his beloved birds or mice.
I believe the law does NOT permit him to kill my pet cat over a bird issue.

Sheesh, the guy should get a life.

The back and forth behind the cat lovers and the cat haters in this thread is comical. So are the comments by the semantics police.
It is interesting that no one has brought up the point that here we have a guy who professes to like cats, but because they might be killing birds he studies, he felt the need to eliminate the threat. Sounds like a LIBERAL to me!
Also I don't recall anyone pointing out the fact that this incident did not happen in this guy's backyard or even in his neighbor's backyard. It appearently happened on public property. He appearently had to go out of his way to kill this animal.

What gives this jerk the right to decide which species is more important to the planet? I hope they throw the book at his backside. News flash for some - Species must die out (that includes birds) for new species to have room. Cats eat birds. I'm pretty sure that the Cat wasn't going after just 'endangered' ones. Even Feral Cats aren't that particular.

In a bizarre juxtapositional coincidence, I have been blasting endangered birds with a 12ga shotgun to feed the army of feral cats I’ve been raising.
