They should give him a medal, but this is not Breaking News.

With all that happened lately with the tainted pet food, I got to wondering:
Why don’t they put birth control in cat food?

One of the toll-booth employees, who had been feeding several feral cats and considered them pets, found the dead cat and pursued Stevenson.

The toll-booth employee was a contributor to the problem. People who feed feral animals are extremely irresponsible. If the guy wants a pet then he should buy/adopt an animal and properly care for it. Feral animals are nobody's pets.

I love it when nature lovers get upset at how nature operates and decide that it is incumbent on them to go and kill an animal in order to stop an animal from getting killed. So that nature can be undisturbed.

That's some twisted thinking.

Although he admitted in a 1999 Internet posting to killing two dozen feral cats near his island home, Stevenson told the Houston Chronicle in November that he is fond of cats.
.
His arrest last year surprised and saddened many environmentalists.
.
"Jim Stevenson is not a bad man," Dori Nelson, chair of the Seabrook Eco-Tourism Committee, told the Chronicle soon after his arrest.

Those greenies are a delight...

I know a guy, who knows a guy, who has killed a few feral cats on his property. He was sick and tired of his irresponsible niehbors doing nothing about the cats that were breading under his shed. These cats were leaving trails of feathers all over his yard...yadda yadda yadda...he currently has no more feral cat problems.

Shooting an animal is not “cruelty” under the law in any jurisdiction that I know of. Even a case where he only wounded one by accident still wouldn’t qualify I wouldn’t think.

If the bird nut shot my cat, I’d cut his testicles off with a chain saw and feed them to the vultures. Then, I’d kill his whole family while he watched, then I’d kill a few of his neighbors just to make sure everybody knew how angry I was.

Or, I’d call the cops and try to get him arrested. One or the other.

Jim Stevenson, 53... "What really bothers me, this cat was down there killing endangered species of birds and others protected by law," Stevenson said in an interview Thursday. "Feral cats are not protected by law, and I stopped a cat from doing that and I get arrested."

Technically, he could have filed a lawsuit in Court to force the government to get rid of the feral cats that were affecting the endangered species habitat. The truly sad reason he got arrested?

One of the toll-booth employees, who had been feeding several feral cats and considered them pets, found the dead cat and pursued Stevenson.

Crazy Cat Lady Ping...

Feeds feral cats, considers them pets, then abandons job to pursue Stevenson, who is free on $10,000 bail. If convicted, he faces from six months to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

We have a lot of feral cats in our area, in turn this gives us a lot of coyotes as they eat the feral cats, once the cats are eaten up, the coyotes head into town...

This pi$$es me off. I guess I’ll go home today, kill some wild birds, and feed them to my feral cats. Thanks for the idea Jim.

Should have used an air rifle. I have a German one that can hit as hard as a .22 rifle, with less noise than slamming the door. We no longer have a jackrabbit problem. I've also used it on a rattlesnake. If we had feral cats making pests of themselves, I would certainly dispatch them quickly and humanely as well.

I'm not advocating shooting anyone's pets, but feral cats are a nuisance and a disease vector for toxoplasmosis, and ought to be done away with whenever possible.

We are getting rabies alerts about cats, neighborhood by neighborhood now. The warnings come with instructions to call the health department if you have had ANY contact with an unknown animal. What kid isn’t going to pet a cat that walks into the yard. And there are feral cats everywhere in Florida! I’ve seen people driving around servicing feeding stations they’ve set up. I will start taking down licence plate numbers. Not good. Not good at all. Of course, that problem should not be solved with a .22.

When there’s a coyote in the neighborhood eating cats, cat people don’t use felony animal cruelty charges to protect the coyote. Instead, they cry for state animal control come in to protect fluffy!

But when their cats abandoned offspring are loose eating other people’s pet birds, the nutcase cat people then fantasize about torturing and killing anyone who would harm poor fluffy.

Doesn’t sound like a feral cat problem, more like a feral people problem, and some postings here confirm it, imo. . ;-)
